The "Mexican Messi"

Thats the guy. Career turned into a non event after being bigged up as the next Pele. Only vague memories of him looking impressive doing tricks on the pitch either before the game or half time but don't think he ever played.

Nii Lamptey was a very special talent regarded as the next Pele for a reason, according to many he trained with he's the most talented player they ever saw and some played with world class players later. Sadly he had so many hardships that ultimately fucked his head up big time, if memory serves me right he'd sneak out all day to play football he'd manage to even scavenge food by doing tricks. Locals loved him but he hid from the darkness at home he'd only return home after his violent dad had gone asleep, his violent alcoholic dad wouldn't just badly beat him and burn him with cigarettes but he'd always heckle him on the pitch too, so at home he was traumatised physically and mentally from not long after he started walking.

One day aged 14 he had enough and illegally entered Nigeria then found a Nigerian player who played for Anderlecht and posed as his son to get to Belgium, he was an amazing talent and the Belgian FA knowing what Anderlecht had even lowered the the required age for top flight players purely for him, he started to shine immediately showing why he was labelled the next Pele he had the world at his feet and every top team in world football wanted him.

He seemingly got past all his early troubles in life and was quickly rising but the worst was yet to come, what really fucked his head up more than anything is he fell in love with the wrong woman, at only 16 or 17 he found love and escaped his childhood troubles determined to be a great husband & father with the love he never felt growing up. They had 5 kids quickly but 2 of them sadly died due to some sort of complication which sent him into a depression, the family is what kept him going but then he found out none of the other 3 kids he was raising were his after stepping up from such a young age. This shitshow unsurprisingly broke him as a man he regressed immediately mentally shutting himself off, it destroyed his career which was already on a knife edge due to his fragile mental health following the death of the two kids, the revelation he wasn't a dad and his love life and family wasn't real was the final nail in the coffin for his career, then to compound his utter misery she took the kids away and tried for years to take him to the cleaners.

He carried on playing but everything snowballed and fucked his head up big time, he stopped caring about football and didn't enjoy it but it was the only way he could make money so had to turn up, also think it was a close friend of his at the time who was the real dad to those kids, thankfully since his playing days ended he's more at peace with who he is.

It just goes to show what a difference having toxic people around you can make with all that he never stood a chance, with a good woman things might've been so different instead he sadly fell for a demonic woman and a supposed scumbag mate was giving her a good seeing too, it all happened while he trained so the loss of everything he held dear is probably the main reason his career fell off a cliff, rather than hype being the widespread narrative for ruining his imminent stardom it was the people closest to him that saw to that.

There really are some scumbags in life , just have to hope you don't run in to too many and your never in a vulnerable position where you can be taken advantage off.

Remember Villa thinking they had pulled off quite the coup in getting him but shows how quickly it can all turn to dust even for the most talented. Obviously had more issues to deal with and tackle than performing on a football pitch.
