The Myth that Austerity was a necessary evil

Put two Economists in a room and you will get three theories about how to solve economic issues and then Keynes will be right, as even Hayek acknowledged.

Austerity was not an Economic policy, it was a Political choice, it was a means with which to shrink the state to US levels of public spending, without thinking about the difference in how the two countries actually work. Healthcare being a prime example.

The main problem was the same as Reaganomics. We took money from the poor who spend it all in the UK and gave it to the rich who don't spend it all and a lot of what they spend is spent abroad or or luxury goods from abroad.

"We have exchanged the certain spending of the poor for the discretionary spending of the rich." (J K Galbraith)

It’s actually pretty straightforward that if the economy is tanking you spend yourself out of it, the answer is to borrow spend tax print money etc. Growth follows and everyone is happy and if they ain’t give them some more. Utopia it’s called.

The poor get richer, the rich get richer and nirvana is achieved. If only one country in the world did this then governments would get voted in forever.

It could also be said the the tories were fearful of the existential threat they saw from UKIP, and the referendum was nothing more than a lifeline for their continuation as a major political party.

They didn't think leave would win, and the result they expected would finish off UKIP.

Many ex UKIP members are now tory MP's and ministers.

as are many living brain donors as becomes evident day by day.............
