The Scottish Politics thread

The Tories obviously will not get any seats.
It's Labour who will inflict the damage.
Labour will take some seatsfrom the SNP,mainly in the central belt. the SNP, and Liberals will take the tory seats not Labour.

Oh, a few friends eh? Well I’m sure they represent all of us pretty well. The SNP have gone down in my estimation too but as long as they remain the only credible party to push independence I will vote for them. I have a few friends who think the same too. ;-) The U.K. is indeed a busted flush. A once great nation. sadly not anymore Thanks to a succession of Tory governments (apologies mentioning Tories is off topic in a Scottish Politics thread despite the fact they dictate the majority of our foreign, trade, economic policies).

if you are in the slightest interested in politics you would recognise that the SNPs socialist policies are quite distinct from any other party which is a specific reason that many Scot’s vote for them irrespective of the independence question. Gender recognition/ Murrell/ ferries/ education have put a lot of backs up but when push comes to shove and the nation has to vote for Tory/ Tory light or SNP, let’s see who remains in control of Scottish Parliament.
Labour will win circa 25 seats at the next election.
After that it's all downhill for the SNP. The independence fairy tale is over (unfortunately),
and people have recognised and accepted this. Support will gradually go back to Labour
and they will eventually become the dominant party in Scotland again. It may well take 15 years
or so, but it is inevitable.

Finger on the pulse eh?
A shift might happen if Labour get in and move to the right. Nothing in Scottish politics is inevitable other than a total rejection of the Tory party. It does seem a difficult concept to grasp for some is that in the main, the Scots want a different set of policies to the London/Se dominated English. Ask yourself why Scottish Labour died a death in Scotland? As long as Starmer positions the party as Tory light Labour will not succeed. Looking forward to how the Labour Brexit position plays in Scotland at the next GE or have your friends all forgotten that?

We’ll see…

That’s not a wholly accurate description of the SNP’s socialist alternative though, is it?

What the SNP is offering is a socialist agenda which is funded and underwritten by the remainder of the UK, and so the full economic consequences of a bloated public sector in Scotland aren’t being presented to the Scottish electorate.

Scotland has a deficit of 15% of GDP when you take out North Sea revenue and no small nation would be able to sustain that without the sort of backing provided by the UK Treasury. Would Scotland have voted SNP if the basic rate of tax needed to rise by 8 or 9p, or public expenditure needed to be cut by 10-15%, in order to get the deficit down to a more realistic level? A few might but I would wager that many wouldn’t.

Is the north West funded by the rest of the UK? Or Wales? Or the Midlands? Because all are subject to the Barnett Formulae. London and the SE fund all of us. Scotland gets handed its pocket money like every other region and you want to tell us how to spend it too.
