The thing is Bomber, the police aren't here to protect us, that's not their job, and never has been, despite slogans and mottos and all that. The police may deter (is that the beginning and end of protection then, deterence? What do you do when deterence fails? What do we do as citizens? Take a beating? Do nothing and wait for the police to "protect" us?), the police are good at doing clean-up, but unless you have a cop outside every house twenty-four hours a day, how exactly are they supposed to protect?

Where were they when that woman was getting it after her husband had left for work? Nowhere. How could they have been? I suppose protection means different things to different people...

The lady that killed herself...where were her neighbours? Cowering inside, unarmed, and terrified of being singled out, or prosecuted if they decided to do something?
