All the top teams have their best players 1-11 normally.

e.g

Chelsea <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_F.C" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_F.C</a>.
Barcelona <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Barcelona" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Barcelona</a>
Real Madrid <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Madrid_C.F" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Madrid_C.F</a>.
Arsenal <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenal_fc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenal_fc</a>

Looks far more professional to me than having Silva 21, Tevez 32, Yaya 42, Balotelli 45, De Jong 34, Hart 25, Barry 18.

Totally agree with you ......

i don't know whether i'm on my base or my apex with the way our player numbers are now!

Tough to call then...mine would be...

1) Hart
2) Zabaleta
3) Kolarov
4) Kompany
5) K.Toure
6) De Jong
7) Silva
8) Y.Toure
9) Dzeko
10) Tevez
11) Balotelli

As silly as it sounds, many players now WANT a high number so that if they ever leave, they are guaranteed that it will be open at the next club they go to to "preserve their brand"

à la Bellamy (39) and Balotelli (45)?

I've been badgering on about this for ages to be fair. I understand some players have long standing associations with certain numbers.

Certainly in England, Tevez has worn 32 at 3 clubs, Silva has always been 21 for both Club and Country, and Balotelli ensured that Cunningham (?) switched numbers to let him have 45.. And I was surprised when Adebayor went from 25 to 9 (now vacant again of course), but did this have something to do with Joe Hart wanting 25?

However, some of the other signings that have come in, and seem to have just stuck with the number assigned at the time, I was pleased when Kompany dropped down to 4 when Nedrum went out on loan as it just looks better with lower numbers on the shirt
