Just a heads up for the Villa game for those not aware. Manchester council in their infinite wisdom have decided to hold the 10k and half marathon events on the same day as the Villa game which will involve a number of road closures although full details are not yet available.

The half marathon ridiculously goes out on Ashton Old Rd then up Alan Turing Way up to city’s ground which seems crazy given its match day although it should be over by the afternoon it also will mean the Mancunian Way will be shut for the half marathon as that is part of the route although it is unclear if it will reopen in time for the football as the 10k event starts later and passes close but doesn’t go over the Mancunian way, Chester Road will certainly be shut as the 10k goes along it. Either way its going to cause chaos and trams will of course be way busier than usual.

Clearly the council and police will have considered the implications and think it can all run smoothly but city fans should be aware so they can plan accordingly.

What time does it start?

Road closures around the Etihad will be over by midday as it is only the half marathon that goes there and that is in the morning. The 10k goes past OT (and back to Deansgate) and goes into the afternoon but doesn't affect East Manchester directly though town will be busy around the start (Portland St). I know as I'm doing the half marathon and fully expecting to be at the Etihad for kick-off.

0830 start, not worried about a 1600 kick-off.

Why pay £49 to run on a road?
