UK to introduce porn age-checks in July

How does uploading a passport prove that you're over a certain age? It's not as if there aren't thousands of pictures of people's passports online already that you could easily download. I really don't see how there's any problem with the current system. The person paying for the internet (who by definition should be over 18) decides if they want to block or allow porn. I don't see how this system is going to be any more effective than that, other than creating another massive hackable database of people's details.

Anyone stupid enough to provide details like their passport info to an industry cram packed with dodgy characters at best and some downright criminals, wants their lumps feeling imo.

Absolutely ridiculous law straight from the 1950s. Why is porn not 'safe' for under 18s? It's two people having sex (or a few more if you're into gangbangs). If parents want to stop their kids from looking at porn then that's their job.

very conflicted set of laws, on the one had they add this, on the other they have massivley loosened what is termed obscene. so its no legal to download harder/darker porn but you have to prove your 18 to do it?

What is this "porn" that people speak of?

Think it is to do with those shops you can take stuff to. Like a television or some gold item. The shop assistant assesses your item and then gives you some money for it. Not sure how it works online though and we spell it PAWN here in England...

Which is quite apt as my mate says these sites show lots of people having their lumps felt.
