I admire and am in favor of many of the aims of this proposal - but at the same time, it's a wholly unworkable proposition and any Green New Deal candidate running against Trump in 2020 will - IMO - be soundly defeated.

Meanwhile, if a Trump-versus-GND runoff were to occur - I very much fear that this could set left-leaning policies back years.

I look at politics on the other side of the Atlantic and it sometimes makes me feel slightly better about the shit show going on here.

The 'Green New Deal' could actually happen sooner than you think via the 'TVA'.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation in the United States created by congressional charter on May 18, 1933, to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertiliser manufacturing, and economic development to the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly affected by the Great Depression. The enterprise was a result of the efforts of Senator George W. Norris of Nebraska. TVA was envisioned not only as a provider, but also as a regional economic development agency that would use federal experts and electricity to more quickly modernise the region's economy and society...

Despite its shares being owned by the federal government, TVA operates exactly like a private corporation, and receives no taxpayer funding

TVA made a $1Bn profit in 2016/ 17 and can create bonds for itself if it needs to expand.

As far as I know, the reason that this isn't rolled out nation wide is because private businesses stamped their feet. I know that TVA are looking to bin the coal aspect of their arm and #45 has begged them not to in the last 24hrs.

TVA is not without its faults, but if it were tweaked and made safer (coal-less) and unleashed nationwide, some Progressives think this would be the starting point of 'The Green New Deal'.

Nothing wrong with thinking about the future.
