Exactly. For example they will sell a tabby moggy as a Bengal. A rescue or Cats protection will want a donation for cost of speying or neutering but apart from that they just want them rehomed. Don't be surprised if you get knocked back either, especially if you take daughter but it might depend how old she is.

why would they knock me back my daughter is 9 but she wont be expected to care for it me and the missus would do that

Thought she might be younger. People at shelters and things know that children get bored easily and looking after a kitten is a big responsibility. But if they know that mum and dad are going to be looking after it and you just take daughter to choose, You'll be ok.
