This is something our resident Bosnians might be interested in. I have written an article about the possible team Yugoslavia would of had if it had not fallen.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.thedaisycutter.co.uk/2012/10/yugoslavia-what-could-have-been/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.thedaisycutter.co.uk/2012/10 ... have-been/</a>

A great squad, what do you think about the starting 11 I picked?

Possibily could of gone 5 at the back with Kolarov and Srna as wing backs and drop Ivanovic in as the third CB. A very good team and much better than England imo.

Yep, it would definitely be one of the best European and World teams though I don' feel any bad about it, I don't miss that country at all.

It was not Kingdom of Yugoslavia since the WW2 though, it was socialistic federate republic of yugoslavia.

And this generation is not best that team would have. One that won U21 World Cup 1987. was much better with the likes of Boban, Prosinecki, Jarni, Suker, Mijatovic.. Croatia won 1998 WC bronze with players from that team, with players from other ex-yugoslavian countries they would probably win it back then.

I cant believe how good the defence is!!! Another point is the strikers are all in a very similar mould!

It is a very interesting history!

Very nice article mate...that starting 11 would be fucking amazing, but the best part is - reserves would be just as good...kinda like City team right now :-)

Speaking of - Edin a goal and assist in 40 minutes vs. Lithuania already...good form continues :-)

Love when this comes up, its astonishing to see what could have been (from purely a football perspective). That team would be so incredible to watch and also hard as nails

And there would be some incredible talent on the bench (assuming all SFRY players accepted their call-up). Including:

Spahic (BiH)
Misimovic (BiH)
Olic (Cro)
Jelavic (Cro)
Jovetic (Mne)
Ivanovic (Srb)

and maybe...

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (BiH)
Marko Marin (BiH)
Xherdan Shaqiri (Srb)

And those are just off the top of my head!

Wow I did not know about Marin and Shaqiri!
Really is a footballing hotbed.

@Eaglesfan Dzekos goals to minutes ratio must be crazy this year!
