Monaco - Post Match thread.

Did enough in the second half to win that game.
Our decision making was poor in a number of critical occasions.
KDB was off it big time tonight - wtf was he thinking of when giving away a free kick when there was absolutely no imminent threat?!?
Ultimately we got done by a set piece that should be bread and butter to our defence.
Very disappointed but our defence can be fixed in the summer and will be. Too much dead wood in there still.

Only City would manage to crash out against arguably the weakest team left in the competition apart from Leicester. So infuriating.

Paying the price for unbelievably bad defensive transfers. The money we've spent to line up with that 4 is a fucking disgrace and heads should roll. We've scored 6 goals and gone out. Pathetic.
This, this and this.
The defence was hardly brilliant last season, MDM retired and Mangala moved out, we allowed one of the best shot-stoppers to go on loan, and all we did to redress the balance was bring in Stones and our third or fourth choice keeper. And if anybody thought Vince would be available most of the season after the injuries of recent times then I suggest a visit to Psychiatrists R Us. It's alright breaking records for successive clean sheets away from home but five of the six are in the bottom half of the table (two in the drop zone) and the other in the Championship.
But on we go. There's still the FA Cup and the small matter of top four.

I understand that, I love him he's probably my favourite city player to be honest. He's an amazing talent that's for sure, he just seems to screw up really easy stuff quite regularly which has you pulling your hair out!

You can't say that mate, because he had a shot that was saved and we scored from we have to completely ignore how poor he was, how yet again in front of goal he flapped and chose the wrong option, no we have to look at his stats like his "assist" at boro last week. Sterling was poor tonight and hiding like he does in these games, that being sad every one of our players were the same tonight.

Bad day at the office from the management down

How the board thought we were going to challenge Europe's elite this year with 4 x full backs over 30 and one of them playing centre half is worrying. Stones is a good edition but he and possibly Otamendi should be the only defenders still at the club come next season. Just really annoying that average fans could see this problem developing 2 years ago but not the club.

De bruyne has been brutal for ages now yet he keeps getting picked. Had he been substituted in time we would still be in the competition. Cant defend so we are out. For fucks sake we had a 2 goal lead yet couldnt get the job done. Pep has to carry the can for that.

De Bruyne was a disgrace in the first half but was probably our best player in the second half when Pep finally got his car crash tactics right

KDB needs a break, his kid must be keeping him up because he's been terrible recently. Pep should've spotted he needed replacing after 15 minutes, all his fault this result!

De Bruyne and Fernandinho need to take long hard looks at themselves.

Shite for months and went hiding tonight.

Stones, I've given you dogs abuse all year, but take a fucking bow you were class tonight and up for the fight.

Clichy, just retire. Now.
But stones unneccesarily gave away the free kick which led to there goal.

Comparing Pep in his first season to Wenger in his twenty first? Fuck it, I'm done.

Goodnight all.
Are you genuinely reading impaired?

Who compared that?

When Arsenal fuck up, we laugh at Wenger. When any team does, we laugh and point blame at their manager.

When we fuck up, Pep did nothing wrong.

always seems that we need 20 goal occasions to score a goal and the opponent only needs one or two.

By far and away our biggest issue and yes, we defended poorly tonight but had we scored the easy chances we missed yet again we are through.

It wasn't the first half that cost us, it was the first leg. We gifted them three easy away goals, make such basic mistakes at that level and you go out. Sterling had a poor game, Aguero must have had lead in his boots, his first touch was bad all game. Poor delivery from set pieces. Clichy and Sagna aren't good enough attacking wise. Fullbacks these days are now so important when it comes to attacking, and they don't give us enough.

leaving yaya and Ottomendi out were big calls and big mistakes.

Yaya gives us that control...

Ottomendi for all his faults is better in the air and stops that third goal (kolarov getting caught under the ball)

Not a lot of players come out of that with any credit but KDB and ferna were absolute awful esp KDB.....he hasn't been great for most of the season and if pep needs to drop him for the liverpool game as at the moment he is way of the pace.

With yaya in we cannot have all of kdb silva ferna and yaya on the pitch (Unless ferna plays at fullback which isn't ideal)......kdb is the one to make way at present as he has been underperforming for quite a while now

Yaya would have calmed it all down and give us control, Nicolas would have got amongst them, very questionable of Pep to pick Kolarov,Clichy and Sagna, not forgetting Monaco were Clichy's and Sagna's boyhood team !!!!!!

So I'm told.

I think you missed us almost playing a back 3 in the second half, with clichy given license to bomb on. The first half saw a back line that invited the opposition on, we needed a pivot who could retain the ball, the answer to that was playing KDB deeper in the second half.... pep fucked up massively over leaving yaya out..

You can't have a central pair of stones and AK if they are boxed in due to nobody being in the hole...

Regardless though, big so called players went walkabout.... again

It is always a fluid and dynamic system under Guardiola, it is never rigid and the tactics changes depending on situations and it even changed in the first half as well e.g Sterling and Sane switching positions and full backs inverting inside. The shape of the team was essentially the same in the second half.

The point still remains that it was not the tactics that caused that first half performance, you should not miss that reality as well. The players were weak and that is why the team played poorly in the first half . The tactics even though it was bad (which I don't think so) cannot warrant the performance. It is internal, within the players and they did not show up.

Correct, that was PEG tonight and the Manure thread explodes.

Please stop tinkering Pep - best team only and nail top 4 from now on. If you feel the need to rest players - give them training days off.
Extremely poor tonight and another boost to the opposition when the team was announced - just like the Stoke game.

That hurt. Totally shite in 1st half, second half we made a go of it, just. KDB didn't seem interested in first half, in fact, none of 'em did. Should've brought yaya on for Dinho at start of second...Ah well, just the FA cup to look forward to,oh, and scourers, arse n chavs. Can't wait for next season. Onwards n upwards. CTID.
