Chelsea (a) post match thread

remember when Hughes and mancini were in charge and we had a backbone and will to win. Since pellers and pep we are total piss. No strength or desire.we need to win and it is like we are happy losing only 2 1. This City is not City. Weak as piss

Nah, Pep,will make errors like every other manager. The difference is there's some who see it as his first season with a squad top heavy with ageing out of contract players and learning a new league and there's others, well, there others..
Totally agree Pep makes an error very rarely.

His lineups and substitutions are usually brilliantly genius...........said nobody

pep has not come up to scratch this season but we have to give him a free pass. next season he will have nowhere to go, he has to perform.
I agree Bill but the dogs abuse he's getting on here tonight is way overboard imho. The Barca documentary shows what it will be like in the future. Keep the faith and he will come good. Of that I am sure.

reckon edinburgh speaks 6 languages
On the basis I said your average football manager used to be a player. Fact. Less footballers go into higher education than everyone else in society. Fact. By default your average football manager is likely to have less of an education.
Great positioning is sometimes better than a great save, example... Aguero breaking through from the right Courtois off his line to smother him straight away. Also a great chance doesn't mean a great shot, you are confusing the two, we had more chances in the first half and we still had some in the second half despite Chelsea's attempts to squeeze the life out of the game, Stones heading right at the keeper, Stones kicking it over the bar... watch the highlights later maybe?
unfortunately i can never watch highlights when we have lost. But I will take your word for it. Still doesn't mean I am not pissed off (not with today just in general with the way the season went..)

Hull will be looking for a win after seeing this tonight. Why should they worry? We can only score by tap ins?

We do seem to play worse in the 2nd half of a lot of games , seems the tactical genius maybe be baffling them with bullshit .

So, we're destined to scrap for top four and probably won't win any silverware.

Trafford Rangers - who can't score and only draw - are right up our arses and with a trophy already in the cabinet.

Great progress.

(And our kits are shit.)

This IS the worst side we have had since 2011
Can say pretty confidently I would back mancinis title side to slap this team around in every way possible 8 games out of 10
Would certainly be backing that side too, with more fight and guts to carry the fans passion and expectation in equal measure

Tonight we rolled over and died, with some impressive passing thrown in to cloud over the abysmal mentality we now have firmly installed

Alas, all we can do is hope we do what we should do, and secure the wins against the lesser sides to secure top 4.
Under Mancini our defence and midfield was so dogged and physically combative and when opposing attacks broke down we were at our most dangerous on the edge of our own box - before zig-zagging up the pitch on the counter attack.

I don't think so. Conte is in control. The players know their individual jobs and they are deadly serious of making sure every one of them does it. Defending isn't about buying the best defenders. It's about drilling the team to defend as a unit. Drilling, drilling, drilling. We've got too many fancy Dans who don't want to do the hard work. Sterling, KDB, Yaya, Stones, Kolarov to name a few. Silva isn't in that list because he's a legend.

It is still negative football and is not much different in what Mourinho has done at Chelsea in both spells and what he is trying to do at them lot and what he had done in his entire career.

Ha haaaaaaaa.......wum

Ermmm. Back that up. Come at me and tell me the side that WON the title whilst continuously coming back from difficult positions, wouldnt comprehensively slap this side around?
This side that will seriously struggle to get into the CL spaces
Don't remember the last time, if ever, this lot have every come back from behind away from home to win?
The talent this side has will get it so far (around 4th place it seems), but there is no way the mentality and will of Mancini's 2012 side would not do enough to beat the side now, thats all I said and I stand by it.

Cheers mate.

If we take this game in isolation - then I thought we played quite well, it could have gone either way, and we game them a real test...

If we take this game in a wider context of matches against top rivals, then it's more of the same - could have, would have, should have - but we didn't. We're just lacking a little more aggression, and the ability to manage a game better.

In the end, Chelsea will be worthy champions. I'd like to think Gundogan, Kompany and Jesus injuries cost us - but ultimately, I just think we're in a rebuilding phase, and not quite good enough at the moment. Next season looks promising, but the competition is stiff. We are going to have to work bloody hard to win another title (and rightly so).

Injuries have cost us in some ways. But so have the refs. Especially against top rivals - def vs chelsea, spurs, liverpool & maybe arsenal. It can't be overlooked.

No way were Chelsea the superior side mate, they just did what you need to do, to win titles and that is to win by any means necessary, nothing more, nothing less. No-one will remember them for this season apart from being ruthlessly efficient when it counted.

As for City, we were fuckin brilliant overall, aside from a deflected goal and a fortunate penalty rebound going in. We beat them in every other department apart from the all important goal count, so Chelsea win. I thought Delph was immense, as was Kompany, Fernandinho and Clichy who dominated the midfield tonight. My hopes for this season was for automatic CL qualification which we can still achieve. After where we've been over the last few seasons, we'd be foolish to think that even the great Pep Guardiola could win such a strong PL in his first season even if we all hoped and prayed he would.

This summers transfer window will begin the transformation from Bob's City to Pep's, as we all know the likes of Yaya, Clichy, Zabaleta and Sagna are coming to the end of their careers, & Kompany, Silva and Fernandinho etc are entering the twilight of theirs. We totally dominated the champions elect tonight who did just what was needed to cling onto victory.

This is a part of our game that Pep will have to manage better because he's no longer in a 2 team league. I think Pep's professional pride will drive him on to want to succeed and we've still got the FA Cup semi's and CL qualification to achieve before the rebuilding job starts in earnest ready for next season. I feel strangely lifted by that performance tonight, if equally deflated by the result. As long as we get automatic qualification for the CL, I'll see it as job done for this season and if we manage to win the FA Cup too, it won't feel anything like a failed season for me, but more like us setting everything up nicely for next season.

I can see the green shoots of Pep's Master Plan coming through, and I for one believe he's the man to take us to the next level.

Another member of the 'Ifs, Buts and Should've Been Club' I see.

We're 14 points behind them for a reason mate - they are miles better than us.

They are fucking excellent at the defensive aspect of the game and, as you rightly say, they are 'ruthlessly efficient' in front of goal, whereas as we are defensively amateurish, and far to 'nice' to teams in front of goal.

They managed us really well tonight. The 2nd half defensive ability from them was very impressive and they were clearly the much better side overall.

Not finishing in top4 would a joke with City's squad even if are fullbacks are old and shit. THe GK situation is a mess now but its down to Pep only, Hart would have been a much better choice than Willy, who became 1st choice as Bravo failed big time.

Even Pellegrini didnt finish outside top4 with City and people were calling him a corpse.

If we compare Pep's first season to Pelle's first season than we compare a PL title with a shit league season with similar CL results.

If we compare Pep's first with Pelle's last season what got him fired its still Pelle winning it, top4 finish, League Cup trophy and CL semi finals vs. top4 finish this season (hopefully), maybe FA Cup final maybe not( I wouldnt think we would be favourites in final against Spurs or Chelsea based on our big games under Pep) and CL fail against Monaco in early March...

I was waiting for a big upgrade from Pep, style of play and results as well. For him to find our weaknesses, sort them out, find opponent's weaknesses and punish them trough them, thats the kind of thing we were sold by the media behind Pep.

Instead of all this, we defend the way it makes easy for opponents to punish us from game to game, we concede 6 goals against Monaco in 180 minutes and they could have scored about another 6 (with Falcao missing sitters in first game luckily being injured for 2nd game), we cant even fix our problems, we still dont press as a team...

If this is the truly best that can be reached with current squad so if Pep is bringing out 100% of this squad and its enough only for these results than Pelle should have been never fired.

What makes this all laughable what if Conte before the season would have said we need 2-3 years to win the title with Chelsea, we need another 2-3 big summer transfer windows spending another 200m each summer before we can win the league. They were dogshit last season, mentally they were destroyed under Mourinho, finished 7th, Conte came in, signed Kante, Alonso, Luiz and that Batsuayi guy who hardly plays.
Now they will win the league before end of April probably.
If Conte would have tried to push a style onto their team that just not effective enough for the players and they are uncomfortable with they would be fighting for top4 as well imo.

Imo this season is a huge fail for Pep, Mourinho, Wenger.
Conte, Pochettino, Klopp have much more reason to be happy. Even tho I hate Liverpool I rate their squad as the 6th best only in the league so of they finish top3 thats overachievement.
Pochettino failed ugly in CL but a 2nd place finish looking likely for them and still in FA Cup. I think that game vs Chelsea will be much closer than what we put up vs Chelsea this season. (two losses)
And Conte, no question about his job.

For Pep and Wenger not being in top4 would be disgrace. The top4 was Wenger's trophy last 10 years basically. Going into the EL for them is a nightmare with those ticket prices.
Mourinho's ego will be tested if he has to suffer trough another EL season on Thursdays. He will try everything to win it this season to get the extra place to get to CL.

Pep's ego is under pressure as well, he was used to get far in CL, he basically failed at Bayern in terms of getting to 3 CL semis in 3 years but not make a final once.
Here at first fails to get past Monaco in the early knockout tie then next season only Europa League? That would be criminal for him. a guy who never has been outside of CL semifinals in his 6 seasons of top clubs(Barca+Bayern).

Even if we make top4 its still is a dissappointing season. Even the chance that we might not make it is a joke. And we have a seriously underperforming Arsenal and United as main rivals in it.

Fuck me we have mentions of Bobby Manc yet again.

This place is something else at times pmsl.

You could get a job with Sky or BT do you know that?

So could you with that deflection ;) You didn't answer his question.
No blue expected to be fighting for top 4, they expected a title challenge. It's only natural to be disappointed with the way the season has played out.

I think the hierarchy over-estimated his impact. He needs a lot of money to be successful, good job we've got shit loads.
