By stating what the stats say, I'm not suggesting it tells us everything. So a retort that it doesn't tell us everything is redundant. Unless the purpose of the retort is to undermine the point being highlighted by reference to the stats.

For the most part almost no one has a full picture of what every team in the league is doing at the same time. So to judge more accurately in comparison to each other, using curated stats is a by far better approach than guesing. Which frankly is what we do when we say our defense is bad and Chelsea's is good. We conclude this by noting what we've seen of our defense, and compare that to our guess about Chelsea based on conceding fewer goals.

Now if a curated stat shows that over the season we've conceded fewer chances than say Chelsea, or even similar chances, but yet conceded disproportionately higher number of goals. Someone responding with "stats doesn't show everything" is simply using that line to discredit a curated fact you could only have deduced from either watching both teams judiciously (not just one) or examining their stats side by side.

Since almost no one here watches all the teams judiciously and if you or @simon23 do then I apologize. But if my assumption is right that like me you watch more City games judiciously and the other teams for entertainment. Then a statistical comparison is a way better barometer of the truth than either of our opinions drawn from just watching our team and making educated guesses about the others.

Thus, the fact that stats doesn't show us everything is irrelevant if it shows us more than our guesses and assumptions.

Brings about complete change of tune from 'well known' posters who previously dissed anyone saying such combinations could work. Such is the power of TH ;-)

No, Bale has regressed massively since his injury, Alli is a brilliant player and I would have him but I don't think he'll fit our free-8 system.

Aren't Sterling and Sané's attacking talents slightly wasted that far back though, plus they're not exactly tough tacklers. They've pretty much been two of our best attackers this season, they need to be in the oppositions half, running at defenders, not trying to chase down someone else's wingers.

I doubt Bale will move unless Real wants to get rid. So far there are no indications real wants to get rid. Alli or Mbappe. Being an ageist, I'll always choose the younger. Besides I think Alli is a bit of a dick. But he won't be the first dick I supported. But given a choice, ill take the younger, nicer and seemingly with higher potential Mbappe.

Sanchez, I'm not as crazy about. 28 is 28. We should have gotten him at 25. But if Pep wants him, Pep wants him. Personally, i like our purchases in their early 20s.

In a 3-4-3 they both own the flanks. I think both will be great at it. And Gab, Mbappe, Aguero or Sanchez will be very good in the front 3 roles.

Alli is young too though, and has been one of our main rival's best players this season. Plus he's a different position to Mbappe, I think we need someone to take over Yaya's responsibility of running the midfield, in my opinion Alli would fit the role perefectly, plus losing him would weaken Spurs.

I agree about Sanchez, but he still looks a bloody good player so I'd be happy if we signed him. Not sure why we would need Mbappe as we have Jesus, Sané and Sterling. If we got Sanchez too, plus still have Silva and KDB where will they all play? I hope we keep Aguero too, but with the signings we're linked with I worry his days with us could unfortunately be numbered.
