It's Quiet - a new dawn

Nothing against Pickford, or Walker, but signing a player "cause he's English" is a really poor reason.

You misunderstand me. If the club go after an English player because Pep wants him, then I'm all in and will back it whatever the price whoever the player. That's not a case of buying 'cause he's English' more a case of trusting Pep to sign players he can work with and improve.

I hear, I just wonder if we aren't taking a massive gamble by either going cheap or trying to instantly build the next Spurs.

A couple of marquee signings would help though. Still hopeful Bonucci might happen.

Would rather have ederson, but would be ok with pickford. Bravo will be better next season, even as 2nd choice.

To be fair to Bravo, reports indicate he's determined to make a success of it at City, despite the shameful ridicule from our own fans.

Whether he can do that is anyone's guess but certainly the language barrier hasn't helped him this season.

Don't quite get the downer on Pickford because the lad is going to be top drawer imo.

I'm not saying this is true of everyone in this thread at all because I know there's a few who watch tons of football. But certainly there's a % who are down on him because he's Sunderland's keeper. I mean realistically how many Bluemooners do you expect have watched him regularly over the last 12 months? Same with Ederson. Yet i reckon if you took a poll 90% would take Ederson and none would take Pickford. It's almost like people are afraid of saying "tbh I don't know how good he is as i've rarely watched him".

He has been severely tested and thrown in at a club going down and for me has shown his shot stopping is already incredible.

He is also young enough to learn new tricks so to speak and develop the passing side of his game that Pep and us going forwards will need.

English and a great keeper in the making so whats not to like?

He's already top drawer in many respects. He was possibly man of the match last time we played them, for example.

I can't speak for everyone, but many would argue that he's not a Pep keeper. He hasn't experience playing out from the back, isn't known for his footwork and has one of the lowest pass accuracy rates for a goalie in the league. Mind you, he almost always lumps the ball up the park, so that's somewhat understandable.

His shot stopping ability is well established, but I'm pretty sure Pep looks more at other qualities.

This is where it pays to trust your scouts. My understanding is that his footwork is the best they've EVER seen at the the club from a keeper. Also it's worth baring in mind that we were ready to sign him in Jan. Why would we be there if they hadn't done extensive homework on his footwork? For me that's not going to be an issue. If we're going in for him they already know his kicking is strong as hell and he's confident with it.

not even about watching much football, I thought pickford was really good in our game at the stadium of light. regardless, pep knows best

I'm pretty sure I've read or heard somewhere that Pep would prefer 5 players from the leagues country in the squad. If the decision is close between the Pickford/Ederson and you trust Bravo it's a no brainer to buy Pickford. Walker, Pickford, Stones, and Sterling is close to that number. Alli would be a fair shout for the 5th :)

From what I've been told by Sunderland fans is that his distribution is superb, but they don't play out from the back. So generally he goes long and does it very well. Obviously that doesnt mean that he cant pass it around in his own half.

I am not in a good position to judge but from the three times I watched him this season, in two games his distribution was dreadful. It was hardly 'very good' in the other gam.

If we are looking to sign him, then I would think the coaching staff rate his distribution skills.

All well and good but playing for a team that your expected to be tip notch and win trophies is totally different than playing for a team with zero pressure.
