Jesus Navas

I think this is a mistake. Zab is a better right back. Navas offers speed and workrate but his passing, shooting and game intelligence are all below standard.

Maybe we're playing poker. They want the pot for minimum bet. (the pot being him for free and Nasri for peanut). Umming and ahhing about a new contract for Navas is us making the minimum raise as a value bet. It wouldn't be a disaster if he stayed, we can use him at times. It puts us in a stronger position on the Nasri negotiations.

To complicate it further, I can see Nzonzi being taken as an upgrade on Fernando. So perhaps the contract offer for Yaya works the same way. I am tempted to call it a side bet but this metaphor has gotten out of hand.

And honestly, it does all sound a little too good to be true.

Seems like Maffeo will be sent on loan for a season in PL to see if he can cut it.

So probably makes sense to renew one RB for a year.

I think I would have gone Sagna, but maybe Navas fits the style of play better.

Have to admit this is a surprise. Like Navas' attitude and effort but the skill level...

Still, if the options are Zaba, Sagna and Navas for back-ups...

Wasn't there a rumour that Zaba had agreed to terms with West Ham for next season?

If Zaba has found a better deal for himself elsewhere then it comes down to Sagna and Navas. Good choice then IMO.

Anyway, that's my story. Other than that, Pep knows what he wants. That's all that matters I suppose.

Yaya staying, Navas staying... what squad overhaul?
Hope it's not true anyway coz I think Maffeo is a better RB. When will the young guys knocking on the door get their chance anyway?

I am hoping that we transition gradually to the team Pep wants. Two proper transfer windows.

We have 6 current players who will be in the team starting 2018/19

Sterling, Jesus, Sane, Gundongan, KdB, Stones. That means we need 5 quality players over the 2 windows.

By the season after next

Silva will be 33 and I am sure happy to play a squad role, VK likewise if he is still fit(a la John Terry). Added to that some of the young loanees may well be ready for squad roles. Maffeo, Unal, Diaz.

But the likes of Otamendi, Navas even Yaya can play a role especially next season.

So this window 2 new fullbacks and a goalkeeper are a priority.

we must not waste anymore time in building a new squad and the youth needs to be given more first team squad places
the likes of yaya and navas and the 3 fullbacks are not going to play a full season so why keep them just make a clean start in the summer and get rid even if navas can play right back or wing back what is the point when somebody in the youth plays there every week and its his role

manchester city can not have a season like the last 2 under pellegrini and pep we have stood still and look old and sloppy and also the youth been held back or loaned out i really believe in youth and you can rise up to another level if your given the chance and also it breeds new life into the others and nothing more does my head in than see a bench of multi million pounds so called superstars doing nothing but laugh and warm up

time is up and if pep wants to have plans for the long term then clean out the dead wood what have you got to lose

Walker has had his fitness and injury issues this season..So much so that Pochettino feels that he can't play twice a week.
Potentially one lengthy lay-off to the new RB,prolly Walker, and up steps Jesús Navas González as he'll work hard and doesn't complain.Delightful.

Was discussing on another thread, (assuming Navas was leaving) how we will have to buy a replacement, as we keep having to use him.

No problem with him staying provided it's mainly as a backup fullback. Most fullbacks worldwide are fairly stupid & can't stop a pig in an entry & will cost loads of money, so Navas as an option is not a problem for me. Especially as his role, as backup, will be clearly defined.

Contrary to it pissing on Maffeo's chips, I think it increases his chances. If he makes an impression, he'll play as an U21, instead of Navas, if he doesn't, he may get another crack next year, rather than having two 30 mil players in his way.

He's had one injury hit season two years ago otherwise he's consistently played over 30 league games a season for Spurs.

I have no problem with Navas and a new contract. Hard working player and willing to change position and doing a decent job.

Makes sense put that way, would you say the same about Toure with Garcia and a new signing for pivot, especially as it would probably be Fernadinhos last year as well ?

I'd like to see us bring in a GK, RB, LB, CB, DM and forward but these should be starters, not prospects. That's 6 players.

I assume Caballero, Zabaleta, Sagna, Fernando and Clichy will go and I would also be prepared to see Delph go mainly due to injury issues and send Iheanacho out on loan. We may also end up losing Aguero if he isn't pretty much guaranteed a starting place. We can't really replace 10+ players in one window, unless we compromise on quality. So offering the likes of Toure and Navas short-term deals to act as cover makes perfect sense unless we feel we have good enough quality in the youth set up to cover these positions.

I've got a Jack Russell that could tear arse up and down the wing. He won't be able to cross the ball though but will get under the feet of any attacker- should I call Pep???
Since moving to right back he has more space when overlapping and his crossing has been much better, the problem has been nobody in the box, hopefully Jesus will get on the end of Jesus's crosses. No joke intended :)

Yes we need to bring players in there over the next 3 windows imo. And I'm not confident Gundogan is a banker for the future.

Imo, Yaya Toure has this season been one of City's best players & I hope he stays. The problem is that we have to keep playing him, as we keep getting injuries & he's a veteran, he needs to play selective games & then rest. Yaya has been the one pushing us forward when the 50 mil players have run out of ideas & looked as knackered as him.

We need a new signing or two there, but there is no need to chuck the baby out with the bathwater in the meantime. That is not how top clubs have operated over the years, it's just some of our fans with their spoilt child mentality, are willing to randomly dump club legends for the latest new toy, without actually tying out the new toy to see if it works, first.

Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea didn't operate like that, nor Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid. They try to make a smooth transition, with the help of their best, experienced veterans.

We need to find replacements for all our stars of the recent past, but we don't have to randomly sack them all for that to happen.

Re Garcia, imo his problem is that he is taking the easy option most of the time. He plays in his shell rather than running the game. He is already capable of running a Premier League game imo, but he just played it safe v Boro & until he'll grab a game, he's only going to be a bit part player.
