So where does VVD fit into the puzzle if Vinny stays fit? Or, to phrase it another way, would we really invest over £50m on a CB who wouldn't be first choice in the position unless injuries happen? (and would he even want to come under those terms?)

I'm all for our interest here, but if Pep is that high on Kompany then maybe this isn't the right target. Vinny's fitness is a gamble in either direction.

I don't get the thinking of a large number of posters on here who seem obsessed with the idea of a first choice 11. There wasn't one last season when the squad was filled with shite. Nobody could ever correctly guess the line up from one week to the next.

Surely we wouldn't let Otamendi go, we need a 4th centre to cover for Kompany, if he got injured and we had let Otta go then we'd be back to square one.

We could use Tosin Adarabioyo (providing he signed a new deal) as the 4th centre back option if we moved Otamendi on. However for that to work we would have to give more game time to the younger player.

Not many, its a typical City article, where they've included the wages to inflate the figures so they can garner support/readers from fans of other English sides.
