Virgil van Dijk

Watching some Van Dijk compilations. Never noticed what a quality long-pass he has. And when you add his athleticism, pace and aerial ability. And also plays LCB. Despite being right-footed.

No wonder pep wants him.

I hope it's true that Pep does genuinely want him & it's not all bollocks.

But having said that, if 70 mil was the true figure they are asking, that is obscene. I'm not sure anyone will pay that on a cb, until after Utd do.

I agree, 70m is a bit..yeah.

Not to mention when we start paying these kinds of sums, we set in motion the inflation of the market that we'll eventually suffer from, not only our rivals.

So, best to stay away if S'ampton don't play ball for ~50m tops.

Although I tend to agree, the market is consistently inflating with or without us due to other club's activities.

I would agree with that & drawing the line but I am kind of wavering on that stance lightly because it is only a matter of time before 'our rivals' will actually pay an even more obscene amount on someone average & then we'll end up paying for their inflation anyway.

I don't see why Southampton would insist on 70 mil though, as I would have thought 40-50 makes it a fantastic piece of business for them & at 70 there is a fair old chance they get nothing, except a very unhappy player.

Yeah yeah of course 500m assuming the Sheikh can cover enough of that so the club doesn't turn a loss.

Sheikh is allowed to cover £25m loss per season...not enough for a £500m spending spree...the bills a covered by PL /CL money + sponsorship deals

Hope he doesn't leave us this season. He is a cracking player and think he's improved from last season.
Saints don't need to sell and have heard he's not asked to (yet anyway).

IF he does though I just hope he doesn't join Liverpoop!

Continually losing your best players must really piss you off,i know it would me.

You have a great academy though, and while it does hurt.....and this may be a one off for us,please continue to fleece the Dippers at every opportunity.

Regarding Virgil, what do you see as his weaknesses?

A year ago nobody would have valued him at any more than 25M, so I cannot see how 2/3 of a marvellous season trebles his value, (albeit 70M is probably made up bollocks by the Sun)

Ffs 50 mills is standard starting bid when it comes to city . Hope txiki deals strong this summer.
He's already dealt strong with Bernardo Silva, Madrid paid £20m more for an inferior player from Monaco in James Rodriguez. That was a few years back and look at transfer prices since.

Seeing of liverpool the most they pay a player os 140k a week and the owners pray that Barcelona come in for him after a year on that contract like Suarez.
