But can we rely on Vinnie staying injury free? My heart is willing the answer to be yes; my head is more cautious.
He came through Belgiums game tonight OK I believe Jim although he only played one full half.At least its a step in the right direction for him and fingers crossed, was it just nothing more than a good long rest which has done him the power of good ?
Would be like a £60M signing if we could get say 27+ PL games out of him next season.

Hope you're right oaksie. I'd be delighted if we got anywhere between 20-30 games a season out of him. We'll need to manage his game time carefully next season. IIRC, didn't he miss a batch of games after making his last comeback before playing in the final few games in the run in?

But wasn`t that for a different injury and not connected to his long term problem ? Or am I having one of my "senior moments" ?

To be honest i don't think Van Dijk would be amazingly good he would just be good for City not a massive improvement. As a Dutch City fan I've watched Van Dijk for Groningen Celtic Soton and the National team.
He is a great defender who is strong and has a crazy cross pass and shot however he also has brain lapses like Otamendi and Mangala where 2 times a game he completely switches off, IMHO he will also have alot of difficulties playing a extremely high line in Peps system because he isn't fast and he isn't agile.

Someone who would fit the bill is Davison Sanchez from Ajax although he has other issues he also has his occasional fuck ups per game but he is 20 to Van Dijks 25, I'm not sure about Sanchez' cross pass but it probably isn't the same level as Van Dijk and Sanchez' passing in general is not amazing but it is good and you can see him improving it still could use work where Sanches really shines is his pace, adaptability and tackling he plays a similar insane high line for Ajax and deals with it no problem as i said he'd be a good choice but maybe needs another year to develop if City feel the same they need to act fast though since Barca wanted him before he went to Ajax and are still interested.
I think Sanchez will be better then Van Dijk in a year or 2 and he is perfectly for the PL fast agile strong young and confident.

I'm surprised there haven't been links to Sanchez or even his partner De Ligt who will be amazing in a couple of years as well.

Honestly, I think it's more embarrassing to adopt the rag cafe approach of "we mustn't have wanted him" than to accept that maybe, just maybe, a player actually wanted to play for a club other than City.
Its quite embarrassing to read responses like that. It stinks of the same arrogance we often accuse the shower of shit of... Sadly, its beginning to look like we are just exactly like them. With our own set of deluded self entitled fans. Oh well :(

Hard to judge this until the end of the summer. It feels like a good buy for Lpool, but if we end up with Bonucci for £50m then it makes them look silly. If we end up with nobody then we could regret it. Context is everything, and the summer has only just begun.
Seeing as Van Duke is (under the worst comparison) as good as Bonnucci (hint: he is in fact better) and he is 5 years younger, I'd say paying just 10 million less for Bonucci. will be silly on our part, not theirs. Bow if we can get him for 20 million. Maybe you'd be on to something.

I agree with this in all parts related to Van Dijk.

I agree with him, rate Chiellini far higher. As did everyone else watching them until Guardiola started praising Bonucci last season. If we want someone to take up Kompany's role, Chiellini is the leader and the powerhouse of the Juve backline.
There is a direct negative correlation btw how highly folks rate Bonucci and how much Juventuss football they watch. The more Juventuss you've watched the less likely you are to rate Bonnucci highly.

Would be disappointed if we didn't get him, £60m is a lot but that is the market we deal in I guess
Perhaps he just preferred Liverpool over city, can't win them all but we need to make sure we get a seriously rock solid centre back in this window

I remember when Bony was near the top scorer charts and he was a "PL proven ST" being in the league doesn't prove anything really. If VVD can't get in Madrid/Barca/Juve/Bayern sides right now he's not the best anything as far as I'm concerned.

Also when VVD was fit this year S'ton were 11th, they finished the season without him and finished 8th. They also added manolo gabbiadini in January which leads to the theory of improving your offense helps out the defense.

This all day, I rate Sanchez higher than any CB we've been linked to and much higher than VVD. The only problem is beating Barca for him and getting that work permit.

Have you ever watched van dyke? He ticks every one of them attributes that you mentioned.
More seen than watched. I think my comments were fair, especially based on that. It is a BIG number for a defender with probably one contract in him. Btw, everyone said the same about Mangala, and he had a good season in Spain last year, so....

He wants to go somewhere he knows he will be a first choice. At that money, City would be looking at a Stone's-Van Dyke center back pairing of £110M, so the likes of Kompany and Otamendi being as good as they are might not be to his liking. It is looking for all the world like the #1 pairing at City is Kompany-Stones, but no-one is quite sure if Kompany can get through a season. Paying £60 for a "back-up" strikes me as crazy. Then again, Kompany might not make it through pre-season, and it might look like genius!?

I'd prefer a younger, top prospect rather than paying top whack every time, especially this time. Then again, I liked Nastasic and thought Savic was unfairly savaged in his first season as a youngster, so take it for what you're paying for it!

Ederson
Walker
Mendy
Sanchez

Would be enough in this window to push us closer to the league , we would have our best ever squad and first eleven

Being greedy I would like another defensive mid of proven class but they are few and far between

We can bring in Lucas Hernandez next year to replace kolarov , which would sort out the centre back position

Still think we'll be looking to add a cb and at least another fb to that list.

Any long term injury to Vinny and we are in trouble.

Walker and Mendy are excellent but they can't play 60 games each, they will need some quality back up.

Actually I think we will sign a CB but will be someone rarely mentioned or not mentioned like the Bernardo signing. Young up and comer sort of thing. Some Ajaxfan @Ruzzles mentioned two before De Ligt and ? Davison Sanchez. But maybe we are getting the full back and keeper situation sorted first. The seeing what's happening with Alexis Sanchez and Mbappe before committing to a bid?

Pepe?
Said he's had interest from Premier league
Vast experience, knows how to organise a defence,
Great at the dark arts that make him very street smart, unlike our current CBs
2 year contract to give us more time to shop around
for value, share the game time with Kompany

So, tell me fellow Blues, is this one of those we "didn't want any way" and two years from now will be kicking ourselves for missing out on?
