L'Equipe reported that Wenger made 140 m. euro bid for Mbappe. We were really lucky to sign G. Jesus for 37 then.

Irrespective....Others would call it fantastic negotiating.
Can someone explain to me what they see in mbappe, I still dont get the hype
Just look back at our game vs Monaco...
I think he is worth every penny. This could be the difference winnig the UCL or not. Winning UCL will easily pay it off. Kit sale, full stadium, this is big businnes. Just like Florentino thinks i RM.....
I personally think we should go all in for him....
I think we've already signed the best player for Monaco against us (home leg at least) and he cost a third of what Mbappe's supposedly going for and is just 22.
For the prices mooted, you'd want to be buying the finished article. At the moment you're gambling on a teenager fulfilling his potential.

I agree, Mbappe basically done an Iheanacho job against us, good movement/right place right time then not much else
It's been repeated a hundred times...if Arsenal, city, united, and RM are all willing to pay over 100£m then there sure as shit is way more there than just 'potential'.
Comparing Jesus fee to Mbappes is silly imo because every deal is a new deal and doesn't particularly relate to the other one.

Well yes.. no way any club would pay 100£m+ based purely on potential. It's been repeated a hundred times...if Arsenal, city, united, and RM are all willing to pay over 100£m then there sure as shit is way more there than just 'potential'.
The £130m or so has him breaking the world record by 50%. That's the kind of fee I would expect of the best striker in the world. Mbappe may have the potential to hit those heights, but he isn't there yet.
Maybe the clubs mentioned have decided that he's worth the risk that they pay the money and find out he's a one season wonder, or he's just very suited to Monaco's style, or he can't cut it outside Ligue 1, etc. I'd rather we use the cash to invest in less risky assets, who are also currently better players.
100 million is not crazy if he goes on to be come the next Henry/Ronaldo.That's the (100) million dollar question isn't it? It's a crazy fee for an 18 year old and I understand the points you make about wanting proven quality for that fee. The only point I want to make is that the 'gambling on potential' narrative feels wrong because every top club is jumping through the roof trying to smash the record trying to buy this kid. It's not ...well Real Madrid will do it, so that means we should get in too! It's more like every clubs scouts are begging the club to buy this youngster at any cost. That's enough for me to say aright, we have to go all-in for this kid.

Indeed it isn't but it is if he turns out to be the next Wiltord/Arshavin/Jovetic or Ballotelli100 million is not crazy if he goes on to be come the next Henry/Ronaldo.

Yeah I wish we would learn to be able to introduce young players to the first team in the way Real Madrid seems to be able to do.It is absutely crazy & obscene but it's unfortunately becoming normal, which is why we need to start putting more effort into actually producing City players from our academy.
