Morata only played 5 full games in all competitions last season, to put that in perspective Kompany managed 7 even with all his injury problems. Even Jesus managed 5 full games for us this season and he only just got here.

He started a single CL game against Legia where he got 84min, other than that start against an average team, he got roughly 5-10min in his other 8 sub appearances.

He has managed to score quite a few from limited time but they are almost all against poorer sides as Zidane doesnt play him in big games, as seen in his CL game time.

If we look at Juvi the previous two years, he scored 11 in 49 games and 13 in 41 in the league + CL. His role was almost exactly the same as at Madrid, a sub. Although he started more games for them he still got around the same total time and again only a handful of completed matches each season.

With similar minutes over the last 3 seasons he has averaged around 1 goal per 90min at Madrid whereas he was around 0.4 - 0.5 goal per 90min during his two Juvi seasons. Compared to Sergio who has has 0.75, 0.91 and 0.93 over the last three seasons while playing over 1000 more minutes each season. Generally playing full games will reduce goals / min ratio and give a truer reflection of expected goals. Similar to how Nacho has (had?) the highest goals / min in the league due to sub appearances.

For me this shows his goalscoring is more down to Madrid being so good than him being a good striker, even at Juvi where they dominate the league, his goal scoring was completely average and well behind Dybala.

He hasnt shown at Juvi or Madrid he is capable of being a clubs starting striker, he is a sub / rotation option. Can he perform when he is expected to be the main man playing every game, not coming on against tired legs when your team have already got the game in the bag?

This is not even taking into account how crap the rags attack is, he has had a life of luxury playing for Madrid and Juvi in comparison.

I was looking at the scores of the games and the teams he played against,

when the team plays well he plays well, for the supposed fee they are paying it is ridiculous, and their were better options

Much prefer they get Morata than Belotti, hopefully rumors are true. Way overpriced, its one thing to scores goals as bench player playing for Juve, then improving your tally by joining Real who is the best in the world, but doing so for a 6th place rag team is a completely different story. The supporting players around him are much much worse than those at Juve and Real, he will struggle there but I don't blame him for joining, was a bench player last few years and now has the opportunity to double or even treble his wages along with increasing his brand and image, why not.

One thing is for sure he won't replace Big Nose's 28 goals, won't come close.

About 1 in 3 for 23 year old not bad.
Sure he's playing for Real which helps but to have a better goals/mins ratio than Ronaldo,Bale and Benzema suggests a bright future.
Whether the fee is a bit high is possible but that's the current market.

I honestly believe their style of play the best signing for them would be Andy Carroll. He would score a lot of goals for them up too on his own.

Fortunately they're too busy wanting to get someone for £60+ because it makes a statement

Carroll cost the red Scouse £35 million. His value must have risen since then, when you consider inflation and the way transfer fees have rocketed.

If the rags want to pay West Ham £60 for him, I'm sure the 'Ammers would be happy to accept it.

;-)

The original point I questioned was about a comment that Morata hardly ever scores which was rubbish.
I think he has the attributes to be successful in the premier as his goals are varied, has reasonable pace and good strength in possession, you may be right about him not suiting man ures style of play tho.
1 in 3 striker worth +60 mill.........no thanks

This season is going to be a good one. We will have our best squad since the takeover, play the most attractive football we have ever played and hopefully win a few trophies. To top it off this will be the year the rags are confirmed to be an obsolete club. The mickey mouse trophies where they didn't face anyone of note papered over the cracks but this year they will spend 200m, finish 6th and continue the turgid football. Mourinho will get himself sacked and we can just enjoy the whole thing.

Agreed.

They spend years pining for the return of Ronaldo. Then, they're being linked with Benzema... and now, Morata and no doubt will spin it to their fans as signing a galactaco.

It's not far off Andrea and Sharon having turned you down, you wind up going home with Jim and tell your mate's that you copped off with one of the Corrs.

yep agreed they won stuff against a Leicester side before their transformation, got to a cup passed our reserve and junior 11 only scraping to a win buy the skin of their teeth against a Southampton side that looked the better team. then the might of Ajax that they were lucky to beat.

Dzeko would be a better buy for them but they need to be relevant

This is their problem nowadays. They've neglected to sign what they need in favour of what makes a big statement. Bastian, depay, martial, big nose, pogba. They want transfer records and galacticos as it gives them press. It's a huge gamble, and currently failing spectacularly. Long may they chase the headlines.
