John Stones - 2016/17 performances

Cahill plays Mbappe, one of the fastest players in the world, in behind Stones. Stones has to absolutlely sprint back as fast as he physically can just to get near Mbappé, so he's not balanced and gets dummied, yeah.

That's not Stones fault, it's Cahill's, for giving the ball to the opposition and putting Stones in an absolutely desperate position.

And then Dier watches Sidibe jog past him, doesn't track him and he taps it in.

That's not Stones fault, it's Dier's.

Please, stop the witch hunt, it's embarrassing enough to see it coming from United fans but from a City fan? pathetic.

Cahill didn't play Mbappe in behind Stones at all

So you saw Cahill play France in behind Stones, Dier not track Sidibe and Jones stand still on the edge of the 6 yard box and decided to blame the only defender that made an attempt to stop the goal?

Like I said, you didn't watch it.
Cahill was shit, Jones was shit, Dier and Oxlade Chamberlain were abysmal but I don't give a fuck about them or their performance. I do however care how Stones plays because he's a City player and he was poor tonight, surely you could see that??

I suggest you go watch the first goal again. Cahill plays the ball toDembele on the edge of the box, behind Stones.

I mean seriously we joked about not watching the game but if you can't see that...

I don't know why I'm surprised to see it on here, but you'd think City fans of all people wouldn't be so easily swayed by idiotic commentating.

Today he's been fucked over by Cahill playing France in behind twice, Dier going completely AWOL in midfield and not tracking runners, and Jones not actually doing anything at all.

He is not at the level required at the moment for where we need to be. He needs to improve massively.

Like I said, I saw Stones dive in for the first goal. He was poor, no reason to get upset and act a child.

Funny you pick up on City player and give a free pass for the other players where the problem started! Of and when someones about to shoot do you stand there and do nowt? You try to block the shot

I only care how he plays for City. Couldn't give a toss if he scored 10 own goals for England. Lets see how he plays in Pep's new defence instead of Southgate's shit show?

Umm first you said Cahill played Mbappe in behind...Who didn't watch the game?
And cutting out a through ball isnt playing it to someone

I posted the goal already at the top of this page...No one is behind Stones at any point until he slides in

Yes, fine - but he's got to improve on tonight's showing that's all I'm saying, he made mistakes that you wouldn't want him making in a CL semi-final or final, put it that way.

I blame the goalie

It's hardly a witch hunt, It's highlighting that we've signed a player with huge potential but so far hasn't lived up to it. That doesn't make it pathetic, it simply means I think Stones should be performing at a higher level than he is doing.

Ah of course, I made I typo, you must be right, it's all completely Stones fault lets bin him straight away.

It's going out of your way to try and blame a goal which isn't his fault on him, and then using that bollocks to declare he's not good enough.

Well if Stones doesn't flop on the floor Dembele doesnt get a shot away and there isn't a goal

If Cahill doesn't give the ball away there's no goal.

If Dier doesn't fall asleep there's no goal.

If Heaton doesn't palm it out into the middle of the area there's no goal.

If Stones doesn't dive in...he doesn't get there and Dembele just has a shot first time without checking back.

Ahh that's okay we all make mistakes, some more than others of course, John Stones being a good example

Hopefully he is solid for us next season though with Vinny guiding him

He hasn't been good enough since he's signed. I think 99% of football fans know how good Stones potentially is, but he's not doing the business on the pitch. I'm confident he'll improve, but it's naive to start washing over his mistakes. At the moment players such as Bailly, Varane, Umtiti, Marquinhos are all performing at a considerably higher level than him.

How is intercepting the ball giving the ball away?..If Cahill doesnt do that then Mbappe is in behind

Doesn't get where, he is squared up on him and Dembele is faking to shoot, if Stones stays on his feet then he is still squared up on him because he doesn't buy the dummy

The whole problem with this, is the transfer fee we paid, because he's English (as we may do for Walker) & he's worth nowhere near what we paid, not even half, & never was. He wasn't first choice for Everton, because he wasn't good enough.

If we take that fee out of the equation, we have a youngish player who may or may not become a top player in the coming years.

That's fine.

Accept it for what it is AND SIGN A FUCKING CENTRE BACK in case he doesn't live up to it.

Problem solved. Otherwise: maybe PROBLEM.

It's that fucking simple.

Summed it up perfectly. It's not worth waiting if Stones fails next season or not. The new CB is needed right now, both as an insurance and a provider of competition, JS would only benefit from it. I wouldn't mind getting another young talent like D.Sanchez, Laporte or de Ligt and rotating him with JS.
