New official City website

I've just used the City App to look at the fixtures and find that on Saturday 3rd March at the Etihad, Bournemouth are playing Chelsea!!!
Must be a cup final on a neutral ground because the spuds are at home on Wembley that day.

I know it goes against the grain so to speak but never had a problem with the website.

Always able to watch videos and the like, log in to whatever.

However its trying to hard by showing far more than necessary and does struggle on slower machines

Oh had an email saying I've still time to spend my remaining 18 points. On what, I've no idea.

What web browser and device do you use to browse the site with?
Would be more helpful if you also included the version if your Web browser (settings > about)

Every browser, device, it's irrelevant how high powered the machine has been... The website has encountered problems.
It's a pile of shite and no coincidence since Wix.com became a partner of us.

It's down atm

Adding more servers for the Tranalado announcement no doubt.

I've just had another email from those Cityzens wallahs telling me I've got till whenever to use my points. Try getting on the Cityzens Portal via any browser or from within the email itself! Everything else on the website works, eventually. Just seen all the goals from last season, but will I get to spend my Cityzen points? Doubt it!
I've just managed to get on, took an age to load the pages but it allowed me to enter all 7,680 points into one competition, I thought there might have been a limit on the number of entries.

I've just made it! Logged on, logged off and several thousand points in between. I'll be fuckin' annoyed if I don't win those three robots!

It's Chrome on both PC and Sony Xperia XZ

Pc is running Windows 10 and both have the most up-to-date versions of Chrome.

The OS has had a bit of a makeover.

Initial landing: still takes an age to load other than the menus.

Menus: clearer and more obvious - yay!

Use of browser back button: still takes an age to reload.

Search: can't remember what this was like but still need: date from/to options, sorting by date/relevance

Citynow: still there and no option to opt out. Grrrrr - Adblock manual addition still.

Speed: feels a bit quicker.

Wix: now firmly advertised in top right...

So the best bit is the menus, a slightly better chance of finding your way around

Have always had problems with the site. Considering the money available it's shocking. Considering the great work done on here over the years by Damo and Ric the fact that the club have not engaged with them is abysmal.

Indeed the lack of fan engagement continues despite the concerns shown by Khaldoon in this regard. It is hard to believe that the club shows such arrogance in this regard and there is clearly a major problem with the middle management who continue to make error after error by ignoring the fans.

Best owner, best manager , best fans in rhe world, all being let down by certain sections within the club.

I would imagine that a sponsorship deal was agreed and the Club made assumptions about the ability of Wix only to find that they are probably better at designing web sites for businesses like photographers. Stuck with the agreement they now have to wait for the contract to conclude. I would be amazed if it was renewed. There has been a few improvements since the first few weeks. Wix obviously started with someone who thought that they had to have an all team newsfeed like the BBC. After a few choice complaints after united based stories they quickly reverted to a City based service.

The old site was given an official rating as the best of the prem clubs. One year before we canned it.

Tags no longer link to anything, and although I can't confirm because there is no search feature any longer, I believe all the articles from beforehand have been wiped.

City want to be a world class brand....well that's modern football.....so, why is the site worse than my local pub's? It says "tinpot organisation". Do the ppl concerned know anything at all about consumer communication let alone real fans? I am retired now but I spent a lifetime in consumer communications, including websites, and this is a disgrace. Makes me ashamed....cmon guys, the days of cock up kings is over.
Incidently, the failure is the club not briefing properly, not Wix.

Thanks for the kind words, but @Ric is solely the man who decides what the site looks like. My role is to recommend how best to keep it up, running, and fast.

City have a different target audience than Bluemoon. In my opinion, our site needs to be clean and simple as our main demographic is long term City fans - many of which aren't tech savvy and I'd argue the Mancunian culture is to look at overdesigned sites and think they're, for lack of a better term, try hard busy ****s. We as a culture enjoy directness and we don't have time for nonsense but there's a familial warmth there that shines through. Just like families we go at each other with an unmatched ferocity but even the worst enemies on here will defend each other against outside attacks. I think Bluemoon represents us as a fanbase extremely well in both tone and design. We are the soul of City fans in all of its ugly beauty.

City are now a corporation. They have a Global Style Guide which they are forced to use across every site they have in the CFG. It dictates font sizes, screen real estate, what gestures they can't use as it is offensive in Indonesia, this type of thing. They have Digital Product Managers who have to work with Fan Engagement Managers in a Committee formed by their design partners chaired by the Marketing Director with key inputs from the Communications Manager to put together infographics to make the best Annual Financial Report in football.

Again in my opinion, City as a business culture seems to have collapsed in on itself. Under Cook there was not only an air of engagement that others have covered but also an air of entrepreneurialism. City were the new kids on the block so we got to reinvent the wheel in new and interesting ways. The decision to use YouTube instead of a TV channel was a good example of this. We were willing to be risky because we had the investment to fail and this created a culture of thinking differently. Under Soriano we now seem to do a lot of things by rote - not in the major decisions like setting up the CFG but just in the smaller things. And our ticket website/membership system has been a disgrace for as long as I can remember.

I don't have a single job, instead I work freelance in a couple of different areas which allows me to switch more and less into fields as my interest wanes or peaks (or often how much I need the money!). So I'm probably not the best example but to be honest I wouldn't be interested in ever working with City Digital. They seem to be at odds with how I design projects culturally and thematically.

Ric is obviously his own man and I'd be surprised if they haven't reached out on occasion to take advantage of his skills because he can navigate those waters with ease and would bring a deep understanding of the culture of the fanbase over and above literally every single person currently employed at City.

But it's not my cup of tea now. I'm more of an early takeover City type of guy. I like trying things just for the sake of the experiment.

Fascinating insight from Damon, for which many thanks. Two comments: 1. If Soriano is as mechanical in his approach as you say, there does not seem much hope. Such an approach misses the most important thing, namely promotion of the brand. 2. The audience surely should not be confined to long term fans. There are many audiences which all need to be catered for. Example: a young lad from Brazil who has seen our great play on TV and follows de Jesus. He may wish to immerse himself in all things City. Example 2: stats nerds, history nerds, old farts like me, we all have different needs. We do not need to be tech savvy, it's just a Web site ffs.

Thanks, Damo, for taking the trouble.
