Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Assuming the traffic would mostly be to Manchester (and the line to Piccadilly would need to be restored at many millions more) the fare would be £2. You'd never recoup £10m. Nice idea, but forget it. Just buy lots more trams so they're queuing up to get people home.

Not many from Marple / Glossop would want an extra ten minutes on journey time to Victoria rather than Piccadilly. Nothing would make a business case for a £10m station

Nothing makes a business case for a £100 billion train line from Manchester to London, that when completed will be outdated technology, but it's going ahead

Unfortunately, given the difficult access (excavating a cutting) it would cost over £10 million. That's a lot for a station used for a few hours 20 odd times a year.
£10 Million, chicken feed to the Sheik, to have a station named after him.
Re business sense, how many white elephants have been made, just to line the pockets of MPs who own these companies, at the tax payers expense !

On a different note, it's not very fresh news but worth noting on a thread devoted to the Etihad Campus (among other things) that the squash tournament will be hosted at the Campus if Liverpool is successful in its bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, while the Velodrome over the road will host the cycling: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ter-liverpool-commonwealth-games-bid-13197179

The third event that's planned for Greater Manchester and not Merseyside is T20 cricket, which would be at Old Trafford cricket ground.

The only other confirmed bid is from Birmingham: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/its-birmingham-v-liverpool-battle-13054427

Wiki states that here have also been expressions of interest from Cardiff, Kuala Lumpur and various Canadian and Australian cities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bids_for_the_2022_Commonwealth_Games#Bids_for_the_2nd_election

I found this suggesting that Victoria, British Columbia is going to bid by the end of the month and they think it's Canada's turn (it also says Toronto has backed out): http://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/victoria-to-bid-for-2022-commonwealth-games-1.20470714

I tried to see if there's any neutral assessment of which bid is most likely to succeed. The news stories, though, seem to consist of people associated with a bidding city banging their own drum. Meanwhile, I can't find odds as I live in Russia and they've banned most betting sites here.

Decision expected by the end of the year, it seems.

Hyperloop is the future. It's being trialed in Abu & Dubai now.

Manchester to the smoke in 22 minutes !!
If we as a nation had the confidence to invest £100 billion into Hyperloop, we could make the world a better place, advance humanity, make public transport incredibly green and reduce our need for petrol... But on the other hand no MP's have investments in hyperloop, do they. HS2 it is then!

Just seen that Ed Sheeran is going to play at the Etihad next summer. I'm guessing if they have concerts on that will rule out any major building work taking place until 2019 then.
