Alexis Sanchez

No I've said for a long time I'm not convinced signing Sanchez would be a good move. Of course he's a great player, but I don't think buying great players past their best is a good idea. And when you start losing your pace you are past your best.

Pep = greatest manager in world
Marvin = Student

You might be right though :)

He hasn't lost his pace though.

What just so we can win some transfer war with Arsenal fans? If Sanchez signs for City, then he will replace one of Jesus or Aguero in our starting line up so the improvement is marginal. We're talking squad depth at most and remember he will be 29 next season.

I would rather we complete the deals for Walker and Mendy and bring in a defender. Seems to me that there is actually quite a big difference in the valuations we have of players like Walker and Mendy so I am not as confident as you that we can just buy anyone and everyone

How many times does this need repeating Marvin, we need world class players! We need depth, we need quality. You've said on here so many times that we don't need Alexis, but what is that based on?

He's in his prime, knows Pep, knows the system we'll be utilising, so it's a deal you get done if possible. I know that Pep wasn't happy with our attacking options last year. We need more! B.Silva will operate centrally, so more width is required.

Sanchez
Aguero
Jesus
David Silva
Bernardo Silva
De Bruyne
Sane
Sterling

Going to be interesting to see how Pep integrates all these especially with Bony being thrown in to the mix.
Still hoping pep changes his mind on Navas and Nolito

Navas... Bony... Nolito

The faact that one on one he can't beat a man for pace any more. A problem if you are a wide forward. He's like Yaya in our last title winning season and you do not replace someone like Aguero with a player in a similar position to him.

Guardiola is under massive pressure next season. I can see why he would want him. Part of me does too. But I also have a doubt. Not convinced it would be a good deal long term. Get the full backs and a central defender in. If we want a replacement for Aguero, then get Mbappe or Dembele. Not a player who will be like a RVP for 12 months.

The chances we missed last season sanchez would be all over them,be a fantastic buy,the forward line will shit the life out of everyone.

Again. He is 28 (soon to be 29). He is at his peak. Could give us 3-5 world class seasons. Pep has said that you have to play Sanchez "between the lines". In other words, just behind the striker. Sure he can play wide, but he is not being brought to play as a pure winger. I wouldn't mind Dembele or Mbappe either. But Sanchez is what Pep wants.

And it doesn't affect our pursuit of FB's and CB's.

On paper, but Australia handled Sanchez quite easily when he played out wide. His legs are going just like Agueros. If Guardiola is worried about Aguero then replace him with a young player

We're signing Alves. That makes sense because we have no right backs. In the case of Sanchez we already have a good forward line. It can be improved, and there were problems last season, but Pep I think is really prioritising next season, whereas I would like to think about the long term. I am not even sure over a 12 month period it makes that much sense as Aguero and Sanchez are at a comparable level.

We we have a difference of opinion over Sanchez. I don't thnk he will last 3-5 seasons. His game has always been about pace and power. He's lost the explosive pace. He'snow a goal scorer and isn't that special out wide. I prefer Aguero or Jesus up front. He also likes to drop deep, but we have KDB and Silvas for that. I am sure he will be playing n 3 - 5 years but not at the current level.

You remember Toure 2-3 seasons ago? That is where I think Sanchez is now, so I have my doubts over whether he would be a good buy

If it does not affect our plans for other players then that isn't so bad, but I am not sure about that. This is a trophy signing that appeals to fans, but I want to win the league next season. Best way of doing that is using the £50m ear-marked for Sanchez and sticking it down on VVD. I suspect it's already too late now in that regard as the central defender targets lined up seem fanciful.

IMO Sanchez is not being brought to replace a central striker.

I think, like Bernardo, he is being brought in to create even more chances and overrun the opposition and have the belief to try try try to break on through resolute defenses.

I think the lack of conversion by Aguero and others is a different problem to solve. Obviously Sanchez will convert more than Sterling or Sané but that's nothing to do with Aguero/Jesus.

It'll be interesting to see where Sanchez would play and how Pep will get even more from Aguero.

My thinking as well, think Pep wants as many options /permutations up front as possible next season.

Yes instead of thinking of a front 3 we should think more of a front 5, even with Sanchez we will only have 8 players for those front 5, without we would be short with only 7 players.

Sanchez game has never been about pace and power. I don't know how you can come into that conclusion? He is 5 ft 6½, and was never super fast. Same as Aguero. Explosive acceleration with decent pace. That's it.

Sanchez is an intelligent player with an eye for goals. And his ability to keep the ball in tight spaces is fantastic. This is a guy that scored 30 last season and assisted 19. He is not being bought to dribble past players out wide.

it's worth noting that Van Persie had lots on injuries during his career. Sanchez is pretty much never injured. Which could give him longevity.
