Those fullbacks would have had to have been moved in regardless, they were simply not good enough anymore.

It was always going to be a gamble, but I think our biggest issue is the fee's. For me I think we have set £40m caps on fullbacks this season otherwise we would have got a few in by now.

However when Monaco and Spurs want close to £50m for Mendy and Walker that is a huge chunk of our budget gone, ans that not including the back up left and right backs needed for those two.
 
One positive, we have another 100k a week to play with wages wise.

I think we are balls deep into Mbappe, expect to see developments interment.

I think the major issue isnt that we missed out on a 34 year old, who no one knows if he could handle the league or how long he could keep performing at the top level at his age, its more that our problem last season was defensively, and right now, our defence is significantly worst than last season.
The flappers have every right to be flapping right now, that doesnt mean if we manage to sign full backs they were wrong, were in preseason and our only first team full back is Kolarov. That is a very bad situation to be in.

Last season we started it with 3 center backs (one of them Kompany and injured all the time), 2 forwards, and 4 full backs over 30. Txiki put us in a bad situation at the start of last season, hopefully we can improve that defence, because right now it isnt very good. If the window closes and our defence is still worst than last season, then it will be time to look at removing Txiki. You cant underperform like he has for so long. However, we are all jumping the gun, he still has plenty of time before the end of the window. If he pulls Fabinho, Walker and Mendy out of his a**e, ill be anointing him the king of Manchester.
 
Hope that people at least stop abusing other blues who get worried when we don't sign players in time when we clearly should. It's not always flapping or wumming, sometimes it's warranted.

Threatening to couldn't hurt though ;) Getting a backup rightback isn't going to be an issue at all, getting Walker in is the important one.
