You think if we'd played hard ball he'd have signed? Get back to the real world.Where did that Txiki thread go to? not for the first time he has been found wanting. His negotiating skills leave quite a bit to be desired.

Of course we are not penny pinching on deals. But were trying to negotiate transfers with top players who have the pick of clubs and may prefer other options which they consider equally desirable.
Well if as some suggest the Quataris nabbed Alves in an act of political one upmanship then Txiki might find himself with some explaining to do. I stress if.Where did that Txiki thread go to? not for the first time he has been found wanting. His negotiating skills leave quite a bit to be desired.

Well, we had an agreement with the player and the club we're happy to brief that he was joining. Rather than getting him to sign, we pranced around and let him go away, before losing him last minute. If we'd have been proactive, he'd have been a City player two weeks ago
And MidoAnd Kaka.
If any player says no, there is feck all Txiki or any other DoF can do, so not sure how we cocked up, unless you know exactly what happened

This. Some people seem to think we just need to snap our fingers.
Not to disagree with my mate mosssideblue!;)...but this!
No links to PSG until a few days ago! Deal was done with us and we left the backdoor open!;)
I still think we'll end the window in a great shape, and will probably have one of the best squads in Europe, but Alves just seemed to tick so many boxes, especially because he's a winner.
I think that's my point.I think you can only play hardball if you're a selling club who has a player on a long term contract. We certainly couldn't play hardball with potential signings as you're trying to entice them to make the move.
If we really did have a gentlemens agreement with Alves, thats a fuckin cock up right there.
He wasn't last May.

Why is it a cock up? Clearly this was requested by Alves so what should we have done? Cut of our nose and walked even though the club thought he intended to sign?
Same format used with Bernardo Silva and Ederson ?....you come across as quite childish. No mate.....wasnt a big fan of Alves so from that standpoint, I'm not overly disappointed! Finding fault with the process the club took in negotiations is different from flapping! We use the same format, every year with our transfers. It's predictable and frustrating and I just feel on this occasion it cost us!
