The club are obviously irked by some of this morning's headlines, glad to see them putting the record straight on the fee.

Would be good to actually see them make it stick.

Often there's Blackburn or Mullock giving "City's fee", but the rest of the papers and news outlets stick to their own. The club should throw its weight around a bit on this and not let the red tops publish Levy's version.

I mean going in. Ashton new road is rammed every morning between 7:00 10:30 . Surely someone saw something

They go in round the back, the road off Clayton Lane.

Non disclosure terms in their contracts, they like their jobs.
Makes me laugh when people expect leaks. Like fuck am I breaking the NDA's I work with, even to my missus. I like my pay packet.

(For the record, none involve City - so don't go there!)

I know I will get stick for this but in this market 50mil for an automatic starter in his prime is a bargain. He strengthens us much more then lukaku does for the rags at half the price. Walker, ederson and Mendy or Bertrand ( I would prefer Bertrand) are our most important signing this window. It's what 10 odd mil more the mop head ffs.
I agree with this. Lukaku is ibra's replacement so is not improving them, hardly helping them stand still, but cost nearly double the price of a player who should improve us. Lukaku is good but he ain't no Ibra, and does about as much to contribute to team play.

There's a really simple way of doing this rather than trying to fight a media battle, just publish the figures ourselves on the official site.

Fees being undisclosed is probably something both clubs agree on contractually and benefit the selling club most when the press sensationalise things, especially when a con man like Levy is involved.

Exactly, and as much as I like leaked info to give me some sense of what's going on, it also disappoints me when I see it as it suggests the club isn't being vigilant enough.

Yeah, fair point. It's a battle we're not going to win though as we have very few friends in the media in comparison to our closest rivals.

why does the media always have to give the tone that manchester city have over paid the market is out of man city hands and just look over the road for over paying they set the level on the whole thing they over paid on almost every single british signing by fergie i could name them and put the list up but i be here all day

we need world class full backs and the price is nothing to do with the players manchester city just need to get the job done and move on forget what ever we pay if we win silverware then job done nobody can say fuck all but i will say in getting the 2 full backs the premier league is ours in the bag then we could push the so called big teams in the champions league am sitting here this morning think of the team and squad we have with or without another striker (sanchez) we look strong

Not sure why everybody is scrambling for feeble excuses to justify the price "Well United paid more for a player in an entirely different position" It's incredibly rag-like and needs to stop.

The fee is ridiculous, even by the current markets standards, but so what? We got our target. Let them laugh, if it wins us the league, we'll be the ones laughing come May.

Whilst i don't really rate Walker and don't particularly want him here, i'm very happy we've look around, identified what the club believes is the best option and gone all out to get him. No fucking around anymore, trying to scrimp a few million off the price resulting in us losing out on the player and turning to a plan C signing that takes us nowhere. If we get what the club deems to be the best in that area then they can spend as much as they want. Real Madrid do the same and look what it's won them.

No need for excuses, feeble or otherwise. The fee is fine. We need a RB and we need a HG one. He's the best there is in that category and coming from a rival. we were never going to get him for less.

Don't think it's so much levy's version, more like the fuckers just pluck a figure out of thin air, would also think it's also more to do with lukaku's fee and trying to make that look good business..

They just said "joint" highest fee for a defender

Maybe they got a telling off
That's what happens when your ticker editor is Winston Smith

And is that joint with Stones at £2-3m more?

Or are they admitting that the add-ons are likely, one has got to be winning ECL

One for the "BBC Hate us" "Salford BBC" etc. lot - they're reporting our version of the fee, not the "record-breaking" one.
