Pretty sure Mendy has already chosen a number if the deal is close, Walker mentioned in his Inside City video that it was his agent who informed him which numbers were up for grabs, so you imagine the club lets the players pick a number before they get to the CFA.

I'm torn on this one

I loved MVF when he played for us, but he wasn't our player when he died at a ridiculously early age. He wasn't with us long enough (imo) to be declared a true club legend. I was then a bit surprised when the shirt was retired.

In spite (or because) of this I support the club and if they wish to reinstate the shirt I won't object, but neither would I support Mendy just taking it without serious consultation.

It's not a story just forum talk/debate because Ben's tag is #BM23 ...he'll change his number at City and have a new tag. He's a big character, supposedly a very funny guy in the dressing room, he and Bernardo have a bromance. Nothing suggests he's a prick that would demand the number 23 knowing it's retired to honor MVF. My only issue is that he had two red cards last year for violent conduct (an elbow or punch with France U21s and he kicked a Lyon player) both incidents on YouTube. I like players with a bit of bite but not too much...

Just think of the marketing opportunity for Ronaldo. Change number, bring out a new range of shite with CR(insert any number other than 7 here) on it and sell loads to all the stupid little ****s who would instantly think they had to replace all their outdated CR7 stuff.
