Government ban on Petrol and Diesel vehicles (by 2040)

Don't worry by then I will have modified my Flux Capacitor to run on bullshit.

Bullshit is free and plentiful on Redcafe and Rawk so free fuel for everyone!!

There os already electric drones being delveloped to carry people, by 2040 we will be all on our own biker scout hover bikes

Eventually all cities and towns will be pedestrianised and cars only allowed on motorways and main transport links

It's the future man

By 2040 I shall probably be in the Spirit World and be able to watch City for free by astral travel.
Any road, what do dates mean to Governments? They'll just keep on pushing it back, like the pension age.

There is new battery tech coming that will make this discussion irrelevant. Nobody will want a petrol or diesel car for day to day driving.
The new battery tech can be fully charged within 30 minutes and will give a range of around 600 miles. Experimental battery tech is pushing that by four times as much. This tech is happening right now. The main problem is getting the weight down and making the batteries cheaper. In 2040, the technology will have improved and matured that petrol and diesel cars will become the realm of what steam buffs are thought of now!
Source?

No doubt it will happen but no way does the government and treasury just throw away the £Billions in tax revenue the motorist currently ploughs in and i dread to think what they are going to tax us on to replace it.

I will be long dead and buried by 2040, might get a ride in an electric hearse

Point 1
Does anyone think petrol stations will just continue as fewer and fewer oil fuelled vehicles are out There?
You'll end up travelling miles to fill up.

Point 2
Producing this extra electricity that will be needed will not be from nuclear power stations. Any other power stations built to meet need will be producing massive amounts of pollution.

Burning stuff, you fuckin planet killing twat :)

Meh - the mess won't be mine to sort out and if we leave the future to our kids with all the problems solved they will get lazier and more stupid - I want the bastards sweating over their future and trying hard to resolve difficult questions..............

Apparently an additional 15% generating capacity will be required. But by then I would expect/hope that it should be possible to recharge cars overnight, when electricity demand is much lower, with enough juice to keep it going comfortably throughout the following day.

a laudible aim - meanwhile one can fill a fossil fuelled car from empty to brim in 5 minutes - not everyone has that amount of time available to refuel
