Neymar Transfer and its Effects on us

I think it is not going to be surpassed in future, I think the return on investment wont pay off and people will realise it was stupid money. Neymar wont sell enough shirts and PSG wont win the CL. Neymar will sink into obscurity with the french ligue not being watched in Brzil and people really not interested in PSG... His entourage will make a lot of money though.

Impact to City... not sure, but oil money keeps getting bandied about as if it is something tainting the game, so maybe there will be some measures against that. totallly inappropriate though considering Utd and others dont even have the money they are spending wildly!

Players don't sell shirts
Players enhance and raise the profile of the brand which brings in larger sponsorship deals

It's the reason we could have afforded to buy Messi

Rest assured we well be punished along with PSG for this. Probably more as we actually don`t have the superstar in our team and a the Cvnt Gill will be at the heart of it.

Sorry but this is won't happen the FFP is a load of old bollocks and It will just get swept under the carpet.

So... apologies for being late to the thread... but how exactly are PSG claiming to be able to afford this transfer?
They will only have to publish this with their accounts for the current financial year. I don't know when they do their books, but it will be next year some time. Until then I guess it is not even possible to judge how they can afford it, as they could sell players or sign new sponsorships or otherwise generate more income by for example winning things. All those screaming that PSG cannot afford it and must be checked now either have no clue how things work, or are doing a propaganda job on behalf of the cartel - fuck them.

Maybe but selling shirts depends on being in a winning team. If he had moved to Bayern or RM I I could see the logic but PSG ?! Maybe he will be the thing that takes them past the CL QFs and take them to the level of Barca.

So you mean that old chiche the rags use every time that they sign a player he automatically pays for himself in shirt sales.

Absolutely
There was a great article posted on here a few months ago which explained this

Remember united (and any other club) only sell shirts from their shops. The rest of the sales are by other retailers who have bought the shirts from Adidas
If united make £20 profit per shirt, to make their money back on Pogba they would have to sell four and a half million shirts from their "megastore" or 900,000 per season over his five year deal
That's just Pogba. It's the same figures for Lukaku, so 1.8m shirts per season sold by united

United get a fortune in sponsorship from Adidas, that's where the money is. Not retailing shirts

PSG will be dominant in France for the next decade and he'll be bagging three and four goals regularly and break every domestic scoring record

And the accounts for FFP purposes are on a three year rolling period, I think, so if they made a profit last year, it will offset outlay.

Absolutely.

It's more a case that adidas say "you sell a lot of shirts. We would like that income stream and will give you 75M for the privilege."
A major signing MAY allow room to renegotiate, but the whole point of 10 year contracts is that both sides are tied in.

The club will also make a small amount per shirt sale through the club, but I doubt they get anything from a sports shop selling them.

I still doubt that PSG will be able to win the champions league.

Lets sign Mbappe and I think we'll have the best team in Europe. Definitely attack anyway.

But the argument to counter this is that the majority of rags would buying these shirts would have done so anyway regardless of whether its Pogba on the back or fat Phil on it.

The 1.8million fans who decided to go and buy a shirt because they just bought Pogba are not all new fans.

Granted there are some fans like that just like the ones that (probably rags) who went out and bought a Madrid shirt because they signed Beckham.

Neymar might get a better choice of hairdressers in "Pari" so will front page vogue more often.

It maybe skullduggery disguised as fair play but clubs like Barcelona are going to get PSG by increased financial monitoring. They are not going to admit defeat and allow PSG to do what they want. There's no way they are going to give up and pass the baton to PSG.

Expect increased monitoring and financial reporting not less

The spending is not excessive in the era of modern sports, it is what the current market will bear. It is on par with what happened in the major American sports in the last 20 years, and what happens every year with fans moaning about too much money. I get that spending big on the wrong player sucks as well as the increasing corporatism when it comes to ticket prices and expenses.

Again this coming from a dumb Yank (I became a City fan because of Claudio Reyna as a young lad, plus as a Jets/Mets fan automatically became enamored with the masochistic side of being the little guy in the city with the true supporters) why can't if PSG or hopefully City win the Champions league a couple times in the next few years become the biggest club in the world. I always find it laughable when some Liverpool fan thinks some 20 something-year-old kid wants to play for them because of their history, or in this case, Barcelona like the club is bigger than whatever bollocks. Money talks and who is winning lately, UEFA can get f*cked....

It works slightly differently in Europe that the US. Here we have "old money" and "new money". "Old money" is to be respected, admired, bowed down to even, paintings are made about it, poems, architecture even. Whereas "new money" is to be derided as wrong, immoral, tasteless, plastic and abhorrent.

It will probably get like this in the US in a few hundred years or so. But in 2017, money is money in the US. I prefer the US system, by the way.

Which team is that?
The team who have just spent £200m on one of the best players in the world or the champions and champion's league semi-finalists?

The champions and champions league semi-finalists have been pillaged.

That's if it happens!!! buyout rejected apparently by La Ligue

i knew that would happen and the buyout is just for part of neymar and he's got a 3rd party owernship hidden and could be a higher share than barca neymar is not daft he holds all the cards and barca was trying it on and needed the league to back them up now they have don't be surprised if neymar goes on strike and calls there bluff nothing but good news for football players this morning and like i said yesterday this could be a new bosman for players and a pay as you play deal could be the new with club having no contract with a player other than from and no longer than a season

3rd party and image rights are taking over and full control will be with agents not clubs the greed is now all on the players and agents

Someone already said it best in the neymar thread.

Going forward we are now going to be called "teams like PSG & Man City" when the press are referring to PSG.
Even though we won't have a single player in the all time top 10 transfers. KDB will go down to 11 if this goes through.

Good point. Although Occam's razor would suggest they just wanted a player, could afford him, and are buying him.

Either way it's nothing to do with Abu Dhabi's illegal blockade of Qatar.

Barca dropped Quatar as a sponsor maybe that's also behind this raid.

The late Johan Cruyff said when Neymar was being linked to us, "You cant have two captains on one ship.". This is exactly it at the end, for a short time it worked, but at the end Neymar wanted to be the leader, some reports say PSG approach him others say he approached them, whatever the case he got their offer presented to Barcelona and asked if they could offer him that or better, with Messi on the team it was impossible or you have Neymar and his papi being unhappy or Messi and his papi being unhappy. At the end they decided to stick with Messi and Neymar decided to go to PSG.

Neymar for £190 million or Pog-bambi and the Belgian Emile Heskey for £190 million , the pair......mmmm tough one !!!
