I think most people are realists who understand that perfectly well and are reasonably happy with it. Certainly I'm one. It's mental how people think that the academy is anything but a long term business venture that will reap profits for years to come. Sure, we will benefit with the odd diamond breaking through and carving a career out with us but on the whole it'll be a conveyor belt of talent that brings the club millions.
I've no problem with that at all, I don't understand why anybody would.
The main argument seems to me to be about giving the better academy products a tad more competitive game time, which various posters have argued better than I can isn't such an outlandish proposition.
Putting it in monetary terms, if we really must, a single academy graduate making it as a first team regular could save £30m, £40m, £50m in acquisition cost. (Or £100m at next year's prices, the way things are heading!).
