Surely City must have known it would be a high price for someone like this? if these meetings between Pep etc have been held then they must have been all in..But 180m is too much maybe we had a set amount to max out at. All speculation anyway, we could have a deal set and nobody knows. Or he's indeed gone to PSG, our name hasn't been mentioned at all in France it seems which works both ways.
I mean our record transfer is KdB who cost £55 mil. We do spend a lot every window, but we never spend exorbitant money on a single player (like rags do).

Question... bar on here where have Monaco actually stated they'd want £180m? I'm not saying they haven't I'm just asking where are the direct quotes, statement or evidence of such? I'm genuinely interested as to if this amount is pure speculation from the media & pundits or a hard fact.
Personally I can't see him going for more than £90m plus probably £30m in add ons based on certain criteria. But if they have publicly stated £180m then in reality they'll not get that, that'll be the try to scare them off price.
Actually, we don't have any straight quotes from any of the bidding clubs or the player himself. Rumours, that's all.

If you're looking for evidence, tough luck. No club is going to release an official statement demanding X amount. And I think it's 180 mil euros, but yeah nobody knows for sure. All rumours. Will be much clearer in a couple of days.

Kinda agree, there won't be a better time to make a superstar signing anytime soon. Now or never.
Is that an exorbitant price? It's all relative, Utd just paid 90m for a wooden Lukaka after all... And I'm not sure that it's a market 'bubble', not a strong tendency.

You only have to look at what other players will go for...

Ousmane Dembele around 110m
Coutinho 120m ish
Dybala 100m plus
Belotti 80m
Griezmann 100m plus
Aubameyang 70m

The market has well and truly gone, no value anymore. City need to pay full whack or risk losing a player that could be the best of his generation and instead be left paying fortunes for a 2nd rate player next season around the 100m mark.

We sign Mbappe for around 150m, this will look an absolute bargain in a few seasons time, mark my words. Why settle for 2nd raters when we have the money to buy the best?

Thank you guys much appreciated...

So, the figure they actually want could be closer to the £90m I suspect? In reality everyone's flapping over some made up number when I fact it could be half the amount & a simple case of negotiating how it's paid. Like the Bernardo deal it may already be in the bag & we're just playing it cool. Point is we're just guessing so talking about £180m & if it's justifiable or not is futile.

Think they rejected a 114m bid off Madrid, not sure how valid that is obviously but thats what was reported.

That tweet from PU was very wishy washy anyway. Basically saying unless he signs elsewhere he will sign here by the 31st. Very odd and not much substance to it from what I see.

He is 18 with a few decent games thats why we shouldn't triple our record signing(kev)

That's my point though, it's media speculation. Maybe if Real did bid & it was rejected it's because a deal is already done for the player? I just think there's a lot of hot air over nothing at the moment. Said it for weeks, all out now for this lad & Sanchez on a free next Summer with Aguero leaving (not my wish just my opinion), that's how I see it. Fail to sign Mbappé & it'll be a mad dash to sign Sanchez this window & Aguero stays next season too.

Talking about futility, how is your comment any relevant? If a source which has been pretty accurate all summer says something, I'm gonna listen. They might be wrong. A lot of people are, but I'm gonna take notice and discuss. Also using the Bernardo deal as the benchmark is the shittiest analogy ever. I hope people stop using that as an argument in future. It was a one-off event facilitated by the player's desire to play for Pep and Monaco's willingness to sell for a not so high amount because they had an agreement with Silva last year to sell and not have a bidding war for him.

You've proved my point.... in your opinion! It's not stated fact & the "source" could be plucking figures out the air based on opinion too. My points still valid lol.
What's to say hypothetically of course, a deal wasn't struck for Mbappé then also? It's ludicrous to be arguing over a £180m fee & if it's worth it or not when it could be vastly exaggerated. I'm 100% confident he'll not sell at £180m.

If PSG do get Mbappe, they will have absolutely decimated this transfer window, well and truly and I for one will be completely and utterly envious.
They play in a shit league, I couldn't give two monkeys. It might have been a lot worse, either could have gone to Barca or Madrid, or somewhere closer to home even. I wouldn't swap our squad and manager for any other, more so if we bag Sanchez.

Guess we all like to indulge in ludicrous activities.
