New Kompany Calf Injury?

I wouldn't, play the gib game nice and easy get some more game time into him, then a good rest before Liverpool, would you want vinny playing in boiling hot Greece 4/5 days before Liverpool ?
Compromise with the player. International football and club football is a conflict of interest.

Kompany is someone who appears pretty passionate about what he does.
He sticks everything he has on the line for club and country. He played on for us in a poor season with a broken foot.
We have benefited massively from this attitude in our winning seasons.
He is quite clearly very proud of the efforts that he has made for his country and how he perceives problems if racial exclusion have diminished in parts due to the multi ethnicity of the Belgium team.
In these days of alienation of the North African community in Belgium, I am very happy for all that Kompany does and he is a credit to our club.

Not sure we should play Kompany for this game in any case. We need as much pace as possible at the back to stop the breaks.

yaya will come in at the holding midfield role just in front of the the 2 center backs like last season also we now have pace on both sides so we will not look that bad kompany is a walking time bomb and we just have to put up with it and we need stones to stand up for himself and show the talent he's got

Just been to a breakfast seminar with Roberto Martinez who was telling me what a great captain we have...........never mentioned he's crock for tomorrow aaarrrgghh

Just a question here, but did Kolarov want out? I recognize many feel he's not a Pep player, was out of contract and he's certainly made his share of mistakes over the years (and been a periodic hero with that thunder foot of his) but his versatility seemed important as a squad player; he was at least adequate as a CB or LB as a fill-in.

If the alternative was Kolarov, JFE would suddenly become a truly great sigining.

OK but it's a pivotal game. We need to get off to a good start. Ajax were terrible v Utd, but this is the Champions League. it's the opening group game. Celtic are Celtic, but that was a very tough game.

You would rest Kompany in CL games. I would rest him at times in the season, but there will be league games at home where I would do that. Cup games, and maybe even CL games if we have the group sown up which is a possibility if we can win our opening two games.

It's a fair argument, I think as we've not added to Kompany we should be strong enough to top that group without him. Possibly away in Naples.
