Vincent Kompany injuries

Massive void to try and fill. I don't think he's going to play again for us. I really hope I'm proved wrong.
Until recently, I thought the same. However, we've not done too bad in his absence. Touch wood, the void isn't THAT massive. imo

I've not read the whole of this thread, I do have a life, but I will state categorically that I will believe NOTHING until either the God who is Vincent Kompany or Manchester City themselves come out in public and say that he has had another setback. It has to come from one of those two sources. Not an internet forum. (Sorry)

Only reason if it is true is they may hold off till after the Chelsea game to announce it as along with Mendy if he’s out for an extended period it just gives a negative vibe and all the shit press bollocks that goes with it especially when we need everyone focused on Saturday with no distractions, last thing pep or players want is to be interrogated by the Media with constant questions on vinnie or possibly Mendy, leave it till the international break..

The right observation.

We haven't missed Vinnie at all this season, Stones and Otamendi are starting to look like a very decent partnership now. One injury could leave us in the shit though so I think it's the right move to look at bringing someone in January.

On what basis do you think Sane could play wing back against a team like Chelsea away?
My thoughts, too.

Sane was awful in the few games he played that position at the start of the season.

He'd get annihilated at Chelsea.

Walker Stones Otamendi Danilo for me, possibly Fernandinho or Delph in Danilo's place.

Sorry I don't know anything but the fact he seems to have stopped training plus a few rumours makes me think this has legs.

Kind of wish he was injured playing for us as opposed to Belgium to get rid of the negativity.

Let's be clear...

Vinny is not going anywhere, I don't think due to injury record someone will buy him/ pay those wages

It will be his choice as and when he retires but he is a fighter

He is a City legend

There is no one better as an influence around the dressing room

He is intelligent and articulate and will have a good career after football. He would still be an asset to the club/ group

Would we be better buying someone and not relaying on his fitness. Yes and it's the obvious choice but VVD would seem the logical choice.

Hope we're wrong and he's back soon!

I just can't fathom why some people genuinely believe that Virgil van Dijk, given the chance to come and play for City under Pep, would turn it down in case Liverpool sell Coutinho so he can force through a move to the worst defensive side the 'big six' has seen for a decade.

Are you serious? To City at the going rate for 5 players that have the quality for selection you are looking at another £200M minimum! How do you think we would square that with Fair Play scrutiny? It's not Fantasy league we are playing.
Yes I'm being serious. We've got HUGE deficiencies in our squad which last summers spending went a long way toward resolving, but the job isn't completely sorted.

Are you saying we don't need another LB?

Are you saying if Kompany remains injured & Otamendi or Stones get an injury too, that we won't be facing a defensive crisis?

So what happens when 32 year old Fernandinho needs a rest? Who plays defensive midfield for us at the level he does?

Are we going to rely on Tourè coming good or Gundogan with his injury concerns?

2 days ago I asked a Dipper if he didn't think we needed more strength in depth? Who have we got for right midfield beyond Sterling & left midfield beyond Sane? Yes we can start putting B Silva, D Silva or KDB out wide, but so far this season, it's quite evident Pep wants them inside.

Just because we spent £220m this summer, it doesn't mean we don't need to spend another £200m to complete the rebuilding job we started last summer, OR that we won't need to spend another £100m per season after that topping up the squad with a marquee signing here & there. (The net figure was actually £116m spent, so when referencing the Fantasy League, the least you can do is get your facts correct)

The fact the transfer market has gone bloody mad isn't our fault. BUT, if we want to compete at the very top, we have to buy the best to compete with the best & the best come at a premium.

2 questions:

1. Are you saying our squad doesn't need to fill those positions?

2. Are you suggesting we start raiding the EDS or start bargain hunting in League 1?

Pep joined us at probably the worst possible time. Old full backs, injury prone captain, ageing midfield and squad full of players that weren’t good enough. We still need CB, LB and DM for our squad to be complete. That’s £150m worth of players I should think.

Totally agree. Years of defensive neglect and letting the squad get too old wasn't exactly the platform Pep needed in his first season. Sick notes such as Vinny and Gundagon is such plain bad luck.

You know what I cannot be bothered picking through everything that's wrong with your statements but the main ones.
1 no we don't need all the extra bodies you listed. Pep bought players that can play on the left, right and in the centre. What makes you say Bernado plays in the centre? Most of the time he has been brought on to play where he did for Monaco- wide right. If he is also available for the cm why do we need another player there. If Pep plays 3 at the back with wing backs we don't play any of our wide players.
2 City cannot shop in the bargain basement, example JFE, he should be bb but West Brom apparently wanted over £35M. We have already wasted too much money in stupid panic buys.
Our current squad is the strongest in the league. Some on here just think the only way to win anything is to end up with a squad of nearly 40 players, doubling up on every player to give us 2 complete squads. Life isn't like that.

To be fair, you didn't tell us this...

Or more accurately no one argued Kompany might not get injured. That would be silly.

What you said was that "once Kompany got injured, we'd start shipping in goals coz we had an brain fart in Otamendi and a softie in Stones."

On the evidence so far, you've been wrong...

And let me just clear my throat before going

I told you Stones AND Ota supported by athletic Full backs and a shotstopping keeper would be just fine... And so far, lo and behold... They've been.

Well put dax
KEEP THE FAITH
Were going to smash this league with or without KOMPANY. Hopefully with.

IMO best of a bad bunch

We will miss Mendy a lot more because of lack of cover

Options are Delph who is a midfielder who will not provide attack, Danilo right footed who drifts inside, Zinchenko not tested at highest level and not really liked by Pep or Mangala who is too static.

3 at the back provides defensive cover and Sane as the pace to get up and down the wing

But in an ideal world Sane would be required just to stay forward but not possible unless adequate LB cover
