Shooting at Mandalay Bay Resort (Las Vegas)

Why do I need to elaborate when you make assertions about things about which you have absolutely no knowledge! You asserted something you couldn't know and I told you you were wrong. I don't need to explain, you need to not make assertions about things about which you know nothing!

I said you were likely not to be home, I didn't say I knew for certain.
What I do know for sure is that locks and alarms provide better safety, and you seem all too eager to avoid those points.

Wrong again, because you AGAIN assert things about which you know nothing.

I have both. It is called "layered protection." You see it everywhere, even if you don't recognize it when you see it.

Yep. That must be it. Male overcompensation is what kicked the British out of America! Rewrite the history books and rewrite the Constitution, we have a breakthrough!

Yikes!
The whole gun thing sounded like male overcompensation and I think that post proved it pretty conclusively. You seriously need to find someone who can help you come to terms with the issues that make you feel as though you need to protect yourself against some imaginary assailant who just so happens to be better armed than you are. It is a convenient reason to get yourself a shiny new gun, don't you think? Even if someone did happen to break into your house while you were there and they did happen to be better armed than you are now, why do you think you will end up better off by trying to threaten them with an even bigger gun rather than simply escalating a dangerous situation?

Personally I am happy to live in a country where it is much more difficult to obtain a firearm. I think ultimately they cause more problems than they solve. I think the problem as we see it in America is too big because this is something that is engrained in their culture. Even if they managed to destroy a huge amount of weapons and have really tight controls, all it would take is one nutter to get hold of one. We have plenty of nutters here too so I'm glad they can't get hold of anything.

Alright so, knowing that 1 in 5 homes are likely to burglarised and that 60% of convicted burglars avoid targeting homes with a security system, and that the total percentage of home invasions that occur with an offender who is armed with a firearm of some sort, is 'only' 12%, and that 7% of all household burglaries results in some form of a violent victimization, don't you ever think that you're perhaps overly worried/armed?
Also, statistically speaking it seems to be safer to be more selective of the people one socialises with, as in 65% of violent burglaries, the offenders were known to their victims.

Look at how animals adapt to their environment. The polar bear. The lizard. Neither has changed in the millenia they've been around. Because nature dictated it. White fur. Webbed feet. But man? No, we have to fuck about, we have to create things like guns. Then we create things like "constitutions" and all the inherent bollocks that goes with it. We are an utterly inept, contemptible species.

Why do I care if a burglar is armed? Break in, you get warned to leave or die. Choice is simple. Why on earth would I wait to find out if a burglar is armed? He is already committing a crime in my property and putting my family in danger. Unless he has a death wish, he needs to leave and find another line of work.

As for me being overly worried, I'm not,...but thanks for your concern from thousands of miles away. Comforting.

People suck.

Now, was there something beyond such a primary school level "discussion" about how furry animals are nice but man isn't? Maybe man is evolving using his environment because he has a brain? Conversely, maybe he is spoiling his environment with that brain, because he seeks personal advantage over others?

Not as comforting as arming yourself, so give that gun a big ol' hug from me.

Because it provides a significant level of protection.
Protection from what?
I'm just curious as to why you wouldn't want/need a gun in Manchester, but would want one "out in the country". I find it the other way around.
And I'm not here to pick a fight over US gun culture. I understand it's very different to the UK, and I wouldn't lecture you, so relax.
