Arsenal (H) Post Match Thread

Can't agree , our quick breaks out of defence won the game, but playing it out slowly as we did today, no way. Got us into trouble many times particularly in the first half.

Its integral to not only creating the space in which to play but also tiring out the opposition.

It worked today in the same way its worked all season.

Glad to see we won Blues...unfortunately i eneded up in hospital from 1:30pm onwards on 20ml of morphine after severely dislocating my knee playing tennis. Still morphined up but happy that we march onwards and upwards and chelsea beat the scum to boot as well

Ouch!

Indoor tennis I assume.

I've seen a few Arsenal fans really clinging to the idea that they had come back into the game before the 3rd goal and it changed the game against them.

If you come across any of these tragically deluded fans, feel free to remind them of what actually happened.

Between their goal and our 3rd:

Possession - City 65:35 Arsenal.
Shots - City 3:1 Arsenal.
Corners - City 3:1 Arsenal.
Touches in Box - City 8-1 Arsenal.
Players with the most touches - KDB (13), Silva (11), Fernandinho (11), Stones (10), Ramsey (8).

Don't let them live in delusion, it might seem like you're doing them a favour, but they're just kidding themselves.

Are we getting more mard arses the more points we collect?

Anyway, the offside as I saw it. Yes, it was offside, Arsene, but tough titty we had a selective myopic on that line. Similar to the one we had down in front of the FOCs of CBL3! The penalty on Sterling that wasn't given in the first half was just as nailed on as the one The Bottler did give.

But as for the offside goal - it was only two and a half yards offside. Subtracting that from the one Spurs got a season or two back, when Kyle Walker received the ball five yards offside we are a two and a half yard offside goal to the good. I suggest we save it until the return in Islington.

To be fair they did get through a few times but their final ball was poor or intercepted, still felt we could have went up the gears if needed though..

Playing from the back did work today.

The way you know if it worked or not is if we won. Seeing as playing out from the back is the defining principle of our play and always will be under Pep, the only time it doesn't work is if we lose.

That aside it worked very well today.
Counter intuitive I know, but we look most dangerous when we win the ball on the edge of our own box. Every single player knows what to do as they surge forward at pace and players go out wide on both sides of the pitch with David and Kevin looking for options. We've always excelled against other attack minded teams and found Manure-style BUS type teams more problematic, but we've overcome that.

Great display today.

Arsenal gave us a game and at times I was a little nervous.

Fantastic opening strike from KdB and no question it was a penalty, despite poor Arsène's comments. Merlin looked about two metres offside, but having seen it again since we arrived home, it was very marginal, again showing Wenger up for the ungracious twat that he is.

Some very good performances today. I made BJS MotM. Mrs Vienna thought it was either Nico or Fab and the bloke next to me picked Merlin.

The pre-match presentation to Sergio was very good and it was a very classy touch to invite Eric Brook's daughter to be involved.

Well done, City.

In principle I agree.
BUT today it didn't work.

3-1 suggest otherwise mate and i really dont know where you are coming from with this?

For me you have to see the big picture under Pep and so far this season, the players have done that, executed it almost perfectly and we are reaping the rewards.

The game plan and style of play wont ever change and that's from the man himself.

Silva stood out for me today brilliant for 90mins. I thought it was another great display had it finished 6-1 they could not have complained we missed a number of big chances. Ederson is superb and last year we would probably have lost that game as we played without a keeper. My only complaint is that near me sit two numpties who moan all game and shout, no word of a lie, ‘hoof it’.

After playing Napoli, away, vs one of the top six teams from today who fielded 11 players who we able to prepare for this game, I think it was a great result. And fully deserved. Should've been out of sight at half time only to give Arsenal a bit of hope for letting them stay in the game.

Of course it wasn't easy. Nor was Chelsea away or Napoli home and away. Top games hardly are easy.

Defending wise Arsenal did ok. Their defence read the through passes well. Credit to them. Yet they showed not enough eagerness or courage to try and win this game. While 9 points adrift. And 12 by now. It was up to them and they left it to us.

We are simply brilliant and deserve every bit of this win. Long may it continue!!

Exactly.

Great win today. I had real reservations because Arsenal's players had a week off to prepare, whilst we had our hardest match of the season against Napoli.

Arsenal made it an entertaining match, they had a more solid look about their starting 11 & formation, but unlike Moureen's Rags, at least they tried to play football.

KDB was a lot better today than in his previous 2 matches & Silva was on top form. I honestly wish our whole squad could be given a rest over the International break, because I think they need it.

We were a bit wasteful with our final passes & attempts on goal, but the result was more important.

Wenger needs to put his glasses on before he opens his trap. Sterling was clearly pushed & tripped for the penalty, so I'd be interested to know if Wenger had even seen a reply before he commented.

I thought Silva was off side for the 3rd, but the replay was open to too much interpretation. Yes half of Silva's body was in front of the last defender, but that means half his body was level. Fuck knows what the OS rule says, but it makes even less sense to me now than it ever has. If that goal was against us, I'd have been upset about it, but that's based on all the ambiguity surrounding this ever evolving & confusing rule.

All in all City, Girona & Celta Vigo won & the Rags lost, so it's been a good day for football. :-)

I thought Sanchez played well today & rarely lost the ball. He wasn't able to effect the result, but that was more about City than how he played imo.

If we do get him, he'll be a welcome addition to an already impressive squad.

Thought we played within ourselves again today.

A very 'just do enough' type performance.

However, if we can successfully adopt such an approach, against a top 4 contender, and win comfortably, we really must be a special team.

Was also intrigued to note that Arsenal didn't really have any belief they could do us. A very telling sign about how others currently view us.

8 points and a serious GD. Long live Pep.
