Feyenoord (h) pre-match thread

We would have to play really badly to lose to these. They are 7th in the Dutch league which is poor in general! Players need a rest when they get the chance and tomorrow is one of those nights, as is Leicester in the cup.

The fringe players need games to keep up to speed so they are not rusty when called upon.

I wouldn't even think about playing Kompany, Delph, De Bruyne or Silva.

I agree with vinny and delph,maybe one of dave and kev or both on the bench just in case,pep has a nice problem to solve

I am so excited at the prospect of watching Brahim, Foden and maybe Toisin start. Let’s find out if they are good enough yet.

IMO its throwing away the game to start all 3. Foden should start with Diaz and Tosin coming on in the 2nd half. All 3 can start together in the cup against Leicester.

I think as long as we have some older/more experienced players in the mix, we should have more than enough. Then again, I’m not exactly at Pep’s level :)

I think Brahim is more likely to start than Foden, because he was subbed off at half time against the rags and Foden played 90 minutes

Looking at the current standings in the groups it's not ridiculous to suggest coming second might be favourable right now. for that reason idon't think there's much advantage to topping the group but even so, if Napoli win tomorrow which i expect them to do, a point will be enough to see us claim top spot. I expect a league cup side tomorrow, there's no reason to risk anybody that we'd miss if they were to get injured. Which right now means no Delph, Kompany, Silva, KDB or Fernandinho for me

That's a team that's still capable of getting a result and rests most of our important players. There's also the issue of Feyenoord themselves having nothing to play for other than a very faint hope of making the Europa league if they win both of their remaining games and results out of their hands go their way and even then it's questionable whether they'd even want that distraction.

That cup is priority number 4 and should be treated as such. Both games are a rest players scenario.

Its guess work, Napoli need to beat Shakhtar & Feyenoord and hope we beat Shakhtar away a few days before the derby in order for them to qualify. Its looking unlikely for them to go through so they could easily rest players and lose against Shakhtar tomorrow, which complicates things.

Its a hard one to pick but we are playing Tuesday and Sunday so I would say Pep will go strong. I could see Pep starting the 3 young lads had we played Wednesday and Saturday for example.

It doesn't really complicate things, if Shaktar match or better our result tomorrow, which we have to presume they will (plan for the worst and hope for the best) then we still top the group with a draw in Ukraine on the head to head rule.

Agree that it's priority number 4 but tomorrow is a free shot, if we can't start the 3 youngsters tomorrow then we definitely can't start them against a better side in a knockout game.

You do know that Pep wants to top the group for the second leg home advantage - that is reason enough

There was a large group of Dutch fans having a beer and a good old sing song in Shambles Square at 5pm tonight. Now that’s what I call an early start !

Rest as many as possible. Seriously, we can't keep pushing our luck with certain key players! It's a miracle that Delph has not only played well but has been available for so many games. Fernandinho is also a living miracle to be avoiding injury playing virtually every game at his age and at his intensity. Resting Vinnie in light of the Stones injury is also crucial. Rest De Bruyne and Silva too. Play Foden and Gundogan with Yaya behind them. Play Bernardo from the right, Aguero down the middle and then make a decision for the left of the front 3. Preferably not Sané though because that guy is absolutely vital to us now that Mendy is out long term. Sané is the only proper width we have on the left in our squad. Rest everybody. We'll still win.

Feyenoord coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst says at his press conference that star striker Nicolai Jørgensen, who missed the reverse fixture, is a doubt to play tomorrow.

"He did not feel fully fit today and I won't take any risks with players who have complaints."

The CL has some very easy home games v poor teams during the group stage. This is one of them. Foden would light it up.
