Virgil van Dijk

We’ll see where he ends up, but an opportunity missed if we don’t get him. One of the best central defenders in the league, with years ahead of him and great potential once Pep works his magic.
Gives us the necessary top quality CB cover (Stones/Ota/VVD) for the next 5 years minimum.
Liverpool NEED him more than we do, but we should be building for total domination and I have a feeling he is coming to us. Hope so. ... and a massive statement if so

Obviously this is assuming we are interested in him. But if he chooses Liverpool over us, when all the various issues are weighed up, he clearly isn’t right for us.

We need players who can dig in mentally, fight for a place in the best team in Europe right now, and learn from one of the best managers to walk the face of the planet. We need someone who has the cojones to go out and win trophies.

Or he can go to Liverpool, get his payday, walk into the team every week and not have to worry about getting involved in these big games that the top players have to thrive in.

I would like VVD but if it is not to be then I am sure we have other players targeted, i still think that at £60 million he is over priced.

In an ideal world we would be looking at a centre half who will becoming to there best in couple of years time. If this is the case then there is no reason for us to be paying top dollar for them.

He'd look like absolute crap at Liverpool under Klopp. So would Otamendi, Jerome Boateng, Gerard Pique and just about any central defender in the world. Klopp has no clue how to organise that defence in what is essentially a hit-and-hope system which relies on the forwards outscoring the opposition and buying new players won't help as long as he's in charge. If Van Dijk would genuinely prefer to go to Liverpool and play Europa League football than come and learn from the best manager of all time at a club that could be embarking on a period of European dominance then I wish him good luck.

However, I don't think he will. Liverpool fans think it's still the 80's, when top players always wanted to play for them. In recent years they've been similarly confident of signing Marco Reus, Mendy and Aubameyang. Of course everyone else could see that all of those players are too good for a mid-table Prem side but Liverpool fans didn't listen.

As a side note have liverpool every actually been respectful and silent when completing a high-profile transfer? Or is this their first time?

No and this won't be their first time, they've already dirtied their bib in the summer and at most of Klippety's press conferences since. Add that to the scouse mafia encouraging VVD to down tools...

His ideal destination was Liverpool last summer. and with that in mind and the fact he will be first choice for them makes it difficult to see him parked on our bench, This might be a stupid question but i did put this to the forum before we signed KDB so i will ask again, Not seen a lot of him so is he worth the figures being branded about??
No chance he'd be parked on our bench. He wouldn't play every single match this season but he'd get plenty of football and fairly convinced he'd be first choice alongside Stones next season. Papers seem to think we have him, forums say Liverpool. Southampton would surely rather do business with us but supposedly he prefers Liverpool. Should be an interesting first few days of thexwindow because if they're not picking him it looks like it could get done early.

Fucking hell, just read the last two pages, and I'm guessing he's off to Liverpool. I take it he's now shite?

Whenever a pundit mentions Klopp and his "Heavy Metal Football" it conjours up the image of Klopp on the team bus, leading a karaoke version of The Scorpions "Rock you like a Hurricane " don't get me wrong, I used to love me some 80's metal, but I can imagine Klopp's rabid intensity getting tiring, very, very quickly.
If VVD has any wits about him, he'd see what Pep has done with Stones and to some extent Otamendi and be all in, not only is Pep the best manager hands down, City are a far more stable club, with the clearest vision for the future, Liverpool have the stench of Monaco about them, and look like they're about to be raided by Barca for their best player, again.
