Not seen that quote, but hope it’s true. I don’t want a stop gap signing either personally - I’d rather go with what we’ve got, and sign a long term solution, preferably in January. If we sign a short term option to help us in the four competitions that we’re still in then that’s good with me too.
 
Frankie De jong, played 5 games as DM 4 games as CB.

The problem is that he just renewed his contract, but if the club is willing to spend 30m on JE then FDJ is worth 90m.
 
Inigo Martinez was mentioned in the summer albeit breifly. Heard many good things, typical Pep CB, reminds me of Macherano. Not got much height to him though at 5ft 10/11...
 
We will find out soon enough who we will get. No doubt Pep will pull someone out of left field in, gives me hope its not JFE based on his "not a stop gap player" and for the future etc...
 
I've always liked Kostas Manolas

He signed a new contract recently but there's a £32.5m release clause for clubs outside of Italy according to reports in Italy

Obviously cuptied for CL tho

Could keep Stones/Otamendi fresh for CL but would Manolas give up CL for the rest of this season? doubtful

I like Harry Maguire too

Pity we didn't go for D.Sanchez or Bailly, tho the latter seems to be turning into another Utd CB sicknote

Johnny Evans is a good defender but how can he fit into a dressing room that sings "park the bus Man Utd"?

Look we might have to make do with him. He would be a replacement for Mangala going forward (not convinced of the wisdom of such a move mind). Vinny will having a heart felt conversation with Pep any day now
and will probably retire next season. His replacement will be the major piece of business I would expect next summer. With respect VVD we will find out if it was money well spent soon enough.

Can't see anyone apart from the rags spending 90m on an Eredivisie player though...
 
Alderweild would be my choice. Maybe try £40-45m offer as he has a buyout in the summer I think for only £30m?

Just had surgery on a torn hamstring, apparently it separated from the bone, he won't be fully firing for quite a while. Summer purchase if anything.
