Newcastle post match thread

We have gone on this run essentially without our captain for much of the season and not having our number one CB for the past 6 weeks so I think we can cope with Tosin , Mangala , Stones and Otamendi with Danilo and Ferny filling in if required.

We do need a quality CB and should have got one in last Summer along with Sanchez but it wasn't to be so I doubt we will strengthen in January and trust some of our youth will continue to come on and step up over the next season or two along with the four players we need namely a replacement for Yaya , another striker and two more defenders.

Hopefully Mendy will stay injury free and he will be like a new signing next season.

You can live in hope!- And I agree he might just create something - but he will need to take the one chance he gets. Some would say that Kane also has the quality to make us pay - but a fortnight ago he hardly got a sniff. The point is if you don't have the ball - you cant score.

BOY - YOU MADE TOTENHAM (A GOOD TEAM) LOOK ORDinary
(scuse caps) - they tried to play against you - they shouldn't have bothered- they needed a plan b. ofcourse we will be counter all day long

You are imo the best team in the world (on form- based on relative results in europe to come to that conclusion- (pl teams have upped there comparative form their after a 7 year dip)) - however if you get one of these games (where you dominate but don't finish ) - sterling can not keep bailing the team out, and Zaha can hurt anyone- we at least have a weapon that can. As a palace fan i know that gayle can not hurt good teams(great player v lesser teams mind- not strong enough at PL level)

but yeah I am happy enough now things are looking up - we are playing much better - whatever happens v you lot - means nothing at all. if we could hold you (a huge if) i would be ecstatic).

Do I expect anything?

No.

especially as you only won one nil today - Pep wont be happy. I am hoping for a point v 'woolwich' though tonight!

Someone made the point that if Newcastle had "got Stuffed" - say 4-0 they would have slipped down a place in the PL under Palace.
Maybe that was in Benitez's mind. - just a thought.

Why are we not talking about that Murphy challenge? He's gotta get a few days suspension for that right? Players are gonna be idiots and take one of ours if without some form of deterrence.

it was

I don't get the pundits saying it was lucky - he set up KDB to make the assit , made the run and toed it in with perfect direction stretching to get to it - no luck at all, just speed and enthusiasm.
Yep he was quick enough and calm enough to wait longer than everyone else, then do what needed to be done - just!

I disagree. He is special. I know many have slated him for playing meaningless matches with Belgium, but they aren't meaningless to HIM. He's been an unbelievable servant to the club, a tower of strength, who has never complained, and who should have a coach/front office job waiting for him with us the day he retires. I know he's on through 2019, but my hope is that -- assuming we clinch the title at all, and if so at some point before the last match -- he announces at that point that he's hanging up the boots after the World Cup. He wouldn't want fanfare nor to be a distraction so I believe he'd wait till then. Might be a wonderful motivator for the late stages of the CL too assuming we got that far -- "a win, for Vin".

Sorry, OT.
What in your opinion has he ever had to complain about as regards City.

Um, well, besides the injuries (he was injured at Hamburg too), his favorite position is midfield, as he stated more than once, but he accepted a role as a center half and stayed there. If I recall right we had a player who wanted to play centrally in MF quit rather than accept a different, less-favored role not too long ago.

Find it ironic that you say he has nothing to complain about while you whine and bitch about him. You say no one's to blame for his injuries but previously blamed him for playing for Belgium and getting injured.

The club DOES owe him for his service -- is not just about money; that's why there are testimonials and goodbye parties when you retire from a regular job if you were valuable -- and so do we as fans. It's alright, you can sit stone-faced in your seat when he waves his final goodbye and refuse to cheer him.

Did anyone else think it was a foul on otamendi when that player made absolutely no effort to not flatten him out after he cleared the ball of the line?

Pretty clear foul, player totally cleared Nico out but all eyes on ball at that point. That was a wild sequence of events. Walker flailing looked in slow motion.

No, I will clap him off after his final game. As I would any City player.
What I won't be doing is nominating him for a sainthood. I just don't see that we owe Vinny anything especially. That's not whining and bitching, that's just refusing to jump on a bandwagon of someone else's making. Just don't get why we should nurse him through the rest of the season just so he can play for Belgium. Not our responsibility.

If he can play, and we need him to, we will let him and he will. If he can't or we don't need him, we won't play him. I agree that we shouldn't "nurse" him, but to say the club doesn't owe him for all he has meant is IMO wrong.

It's probably just me. I'm sorry, I can't put individual players on pedestals. I love them all, while they are wearing sky blue, to a point. In the end they are professionals who will look after their own interests first. If a better opportunity arises for them to further their career or financial package then they're off down the road sharpish. I respect that.
The player you mentioned in your previous post left less because of the position he wanted to play and more for the 10 million signing on fee that he reportedly got. Again, he has been slagged off to high heaven on this forum, and indeed booed for doing it. I, personally, don't have a problem with him doing what he did. He's a professional, he looks after his career and interests, I respect that, we move on. Similarly I would rather evaluate a players contributions by what they did on the pitch rather than some perceived notion of what a nice guy he was or wasn't. I respect players and have a certain affection for them after they leave. Just don't have a cloying emotional attachment to them.
We don't owe them anything, they don't owe us anything. As long as they give their all while they are here, I'm happy.
