It most certainly was, should have got a yellow at least.Did anyone else think it was a foul on otamendi when that player made absolutely no effort to not flatten him out after he cleared the ball of the line?
It's probably just me. I'm sorry, I can't put individual players on pedestals. I love them all, while they are wearing sky blue, to a point. In the end they are professionals who will look after their own interests first. If a better opportunity arises for them to further their career or financial package then they're off down the road sharpish. I respect that.
The player you mentioned in your previous post left less because of the position he wanted to play and more for the 10 million signing on fee that he reportedly got. Again, he has been slagged off to high heaven on this forum, and indeed booed for doing it. I, personally, don't have a problem with him doing what he did. He's a professional, he looks after his career and interests, I respect that, we move on. Similarly I would rather evaluate a players contributions by what they did on the pitch rather than some perceived notion of what a nice guy he was or wasn't. I respect players and have a certain affection for them after they leave. Just don't have a cloying emotional attachment to them.
We don't owe them anything, they don't owe us anything. As long as they give their all while they are here, I'm happy.
A few observations:
- If you can't enjoy a game like this, I'm not sure what you want as a football fan. 18 wins in a row with world class players all over the pitch. Not every game is going to be a 5-0 spanking. When they attacked us and the game opened up, it was nervy but that's what this game is all about. We can't bitch when opponents sit 10 men behind the ball and then bitch when they attack, too
- I fear for some posters when we finally do lose or draw. Ric should sticky the Manchester suicide hotline just in case
- Not our best but job done…that being said, need to make these chances count. Aguero not NEARLY as poor as he was made out to be, though
- I am actually starting to get comfortable with Mangala coming on, good on him
- Newcastle has the ugliest fucking team I've ever seen
Absolutely. Heroic defending from the Ots but no one seemed to point out the fact the player coming in clattered him.Did anyone else think it was a foul on otamendi when that player made absolutely no effort to not flatten him out after he cleared the ball of the line?
Want to bet?sterling can not keep bailing the team out
80% possession, 16 goal attempts v their 6, hit the woodwork 3 times, a world class save from their goalie, says more about how good we have been in previous games, shite is too harshHonest assessment was that we were shite last night. Worst performance of the season. Tempo was slow, concentration was abysmal at times. All the passing in our build up was slow or underhit or played too far behind or ahead of the intended target. Players were constantly having to adjust to receive the ball. We were shocking in front of goal although we somehow managed to put away our most difficult chance.
That said, we won comfortably. In reality 4-0 Would have been a fair reflection. I think Newcastle's tactics created our complacency at times. They took all urgency out of the game by applying zero pressure on us. It felt like players were constantly looking ahead to assess their options which resulted in them not concentrating on the pass they were making or receiving.
Sterling though, was excellent. De Bruyne had a quietish game but played two remarkable passes. Gundogan was ok, Bernardo offered little again, Jesus ran a lot but offered little quality. I thought Kun was unlucky with a few. Danilo looked like a terrible footballer and I thought Walker looked like a brain fact waiting to happen last night.
I'm aware how critical this post is and on one hand it's testament to how good we are and how much we have been spoilt, that there's room moan after an 18th straight win. But there were a few signs of complacency last night. When we have to set our own tempo, I think we sometimes struggle to look as crisp as we do when the game is played at a higher pace.
Overall though, 18 in a row is ridiculous. Utterly amazing run.
That was clearly Benitez’s strategy and it nearly worked. He knew that they couldn’t compete so his aim was to keep it to a manageable scoreline until the last 10 mins then have a go. By then we were lulled into playing a slow game and the increase in tempo could have caught us out but they weren’t good enough. Not the best match to watch but you can’t blame opposing teams for these tactics. They’ve tried everything and so far and still haven’t found a way to stop us.I reckon Pep will be fuming after that tbh. Not the first hour, where we were good but wasteful, but the last half hour where we let how shit Newcastle had been lull us into dropping our tempo when the game wasn't done and dusted and we could easily have been punished for that.
Honest assessment was that we were shite last night. Worst performance of the season
