Burnley (3rd rd FA Cup) Post Match thread

This league has always had one absolute fundamental rule for teams to survive.

That is scoring goals. Have a look at it's history. If you fail to do that you will either be relagated or something very close to it.

Burnley are an exception to the rule this season. I can't get my head around how a team who have scored 19 goals are in fucking 7th.

Believe me, they will not repeat this next season. All these 1 nils will become draws or defeats.

It's a freak occurrence just like Leicester and their PL win.
And last season? Maybe they will evolve as a football club. You've written him off without explaining why.

We missed the first 18 minutes because I had to work, but it was worth making the effort to come.

As soon as Stones miskicked that ball, you could see what was coming. Fair play to the lad, though; he didn’t allow the mistake affect him and he was his usual calm and composed self thereafter.

A brilliant bit of quick thinking for the first and some fantastic close control and skill for the second. The other two were typical City counter-attacking brilliance, and it was great to see Sané, whose second half was as brilliant as his first half was poor, involved in both goals. I’m very pleased for him that he’s back on the scoresheet and it won’t have done Bernie's confidence any harm to have bagged the fourth.

I was a bit mystified as to why Pep felt the need to bring on Kyle and KdB at 3-1, when we were in total control, especially when both - certainly Kevin -probably needed a rest more than any other players in the squad. I thought Zinchenko did very well. Yes, he made a few mistakes, but that’s to be expected from a young lad. Maybe he and/or Ilkay got a knock.

All-in-all, a great afternoon and a very enjoyable way to make the fourth round.
I would have liked to see Diaz, but it was a really good Cup tie. Loads of young kids too seeing City for the first time.

Ha, funny how people see the same game differently. I thought Gundogan was very good today!
Held the ball well, often with his back to goal under hard pressing. I felt it enabled us to keep control of the game at certain points and even help switch a gear up. The back heel was perfect.

I think its absolutely refreshing to see a club with their budget go toe to toe with the elite sides in the league and instead of bending over and getting bummed.

Have I not made myself clear, or do I need to re post my last 10 messages.

I've written him off because he's anti football and I think he's shite.

we finished 14th scoring 9 goals at home.

What the hell is wrong with you man?

We were 4 points clear of relegation. That constitutes very, very close.

Your contradicting yourself whilst highlighting my own point.

You need a lie down lad.

Whoscored rated him MotM based on their analysis of every touch. He certainly won more balls on the ground than any other City player; including making equal most tackles, despite apparently hiding away.

He was my MotM based on being at the game; just ahead of Dinho.

Yeah, me too, Marvin, especially as we went from 0-1 to 3-1 without using any of the subs, and looked very comfortable into the bargain.

No you are just chatting shite

Wigan scored less than 1 per game and finished 11th a few years back, Fulham finished 7th with a similar ratio. Any more examples?

The 4th goal was an utter joy to watch, as soon as the ball left KDB’s foot, you knew something was on, and if you watch the replay, when Sane approaches the keeper, he subtlety fakes to lob him, making him jump up in anticipation, making it easy to round him and pull it back to Bernardo to slot home.
Love how we turn the screw throughout the game, and instead of shutting up shop and throwing a defender on, Pep does it his way, by throwing on attackers, which makes more sense if you realise City defend from the front! He really is turning football on it’s head.

Burnley could defend all day and negate most of the orthodox approaches to attacking football if they played orthodox teams all day. But we are unorthodox and two or three elements of the unorthodox and they were undone.

Teams who come to defend have to get it right every single time. Stonesy blooper showed how easy it is to lose concentration, drop a bollock and let the opposition in.

I do take umbrage at whoever was reviewing the game on the big screen when they said that Burnley went in at HT with a deserved lead. They had done fuck all except capitalise on an error. What were the stats for the first half?

There was a point in the second half, before we equalised I think, where a Burnley player just hoofed it up to our left back spot. There was no one there for attack or defence. We just had to get someone to go and retrieve it and begin again.

I have bemoaned the fact that Burnley regularly come away from a game with more points than they have had shots on target, but that is the way they play and they have seen that it brings in the points. They aren't sixth in the PL playing sweeping, pacey, eyewatering football.

Burnley got exactly what they deserved, in the end; at HT, they did indeed have far more than their performance merited, given that they created sod all.

If your going to sit here and tell me that a team who fails to score goals isn't generally going to struggle, then your more twisted than I thought.

It's common fucking sense man.

Anyway. Their lack of goals highlights the main point here, they are a fucking boring, and have no intention of attacking.

They play for a 1 nil or a draw.

I hope they go down. Don't need that shite in the league.
