Nothing ever happens for one reason and one reason alone and the Sanchez transfer is no exception. According to reports City detected a weakening of his wish to play for Pep and City as the season progressed. According to the NYT this is because City came to dominate the PL more and more, largely as a result of stellar performances from exactly those players occupying the positions Sanchez was hoping to play in. He became increasingly concerned about the pitch time he would get and his agent contacted United. Ed Woodward's transfer policy has never seemed exactly clear sighted or particularly constructive and seems to have been dominated by nothing more than a desire to score a point off City, so he was receptive to the jaw dropping financial package offered. City was still Sanchez's preferred destination so his agent informed our club of the terms United would agree to but when City refused to budge on the package agreed in August, because, quite frankly, we don't need him as much as we thought we would and we don't want players who agree a deal then try to renegotiate, and ended their interest, Sanchez was left with no option other than a humiliating climb down and a longer stay at the Emirates, where he really isn't wanted.
So, the really important points to grasp are the City pulled out of the deal for a variety of reasons. The money may well be a consolation to Sanchez and his agent but his main reason was that he was very unsure of his place at city. For United it certainly does not show they are "a bigger club than City" (what does this actually mean, anyway?) or any of that nonsense but rather that their transfer policy has much less to do with building a genuine team than trying to steal the back page (dear to rags' hearts) from City.
that pretty much sums it up for me , but i would have loved that treble poxy or not. anything would do after all utd have won 4 trophies since we last won 1 even though we have won more games etc etcThis signing is a panic buy for the rags. Watching us run rings around them at the swamp and go 12 points clear at the top of the league has probably shaken them to the core, maybe even more than the 1-6 game.
If Sanchez rediscovers his best form they will consider it money well spent. He wasn't brilliant in the confederations cup for Chile and his form on the whole has been awful for Arsenal this season, although that is probably due to him wanting a move.
They needed a big statement signing to appease their fan base and prove they are still top dog. Getting a player that looked nailed on.to sign for us will buy them time. The media will.lap it up and laud it as a brilliant bit of business, a coup as some are already doing this morning. The same when they won three second rate trophies last season, when the rags win them they suddenly become 'The treble' and titles, it is ludicrous but their brain dead fan base lap it up.

That isn't going to matter. Currently 1 Sanchez gets you x3 KDB's... Food for thought. Our transfer policy is not going to matter in terms of FFP because all transfers will be done on their merit and the value they can add to the squad.
United have got a good player no doubt but they need an entire team of good players, signing Sanchez takes away the real potential of that happening.
To be honest I know many slag off Mourinho but the man has done very well at polishing a turd. Remember this is still the team Van Gaal and Moyes failed miserably with and some of their key players were in their peak when Ferguson was there many moons ago.
If they had signed several £50m players then I would be more worried but lets face it, one injury to Sanchez and they are back where they were... This one is all about appeasing Mourinho because he doesn't care either way given he won't be there in 2 years time.
For us Jesus is injured, Mendy is injured, Delph is now injured, Stones was injured, Silva has been out... For several months we had a midfielder playing full back... Despite this we are still 12 points clear and that is because we have bought smart and built a squad over the best players (a lot of) money can buy.
Sanchez will improve them vastly but would he really make that much difference here, probably not. The club has made a very good decision to keep our cash for another day where it can be spent more wisely.
LVG's squad had Van Persie, Falcao, Kagawa, Zaha, Mata, Di Maria etc. who on paper are talented players. United have just employed 3 Tony Pullis's in a row and that's the happy truth. If LVG had Pogba Lukaku & Matic I think they would be at least the same points & playing much better football personally.
And under Moyes, pretty much what they are now. Boring.

So, possibly, United could have got him for a lot less? It beggars belief that they appear to have gone in with their top offer straight away - absolute panic bargaining tactics!Nothing ever happens for one reason and one reason alone and the Sanchez transfer is no exception. he does give it away a lot as he is a high risk v reward player like kev,he will get them out of the shit plenty of times though unfortunately, next season we'll see if the rags are better than us or not and he'll know if he made the right decisionThought Moaninho doesn’t like players who keep giving the ball away?! He likes reliability regimental players who do as there told and that ain’t Sanchez Sanchez gives the ball away more than most.
Woah Alexishe does give it away a lot as he is a high risk v reward player like kev,he will get them out of the shit plenty of times though unfortunately, next season we'll see if the rags are better than us or not and he'll know if he made the right decision
