VAR (PL introduction 2019)

The VAR decisions have been spot on. But if you say you’re 100% correct then you must be.
I’m sure the FA will take your observations on board and “bin it now” lol.
The VAR has been correct. Well done the VAR. That wasn’t my point.I said it would kill the game as we know it. Watch the Liverpool game and you’ll see, and thanks for your praise by the way, that I am, in fact, 100% correct. I await my call from the FA informing me they’ve recognised the folly of this utterly shite and already disproven system.

I enjoyed the game last night and every other game I’ve watched where VAR has been used. VAR consultations take no longer than players time wasting or faking injury, and any time taken to consult VAR can be added at the end of the match - we could call it something like ‘added time’ or ‘stoppage time’ or something? You can always switch off and never watch a game again, I’m sure football will survive in your absence.

VAR only used for teams who need help wining it seems... Come on Gill use it for the good of the game will ya..

I’m sure it would. And it will survive VAR-less football which is where we’ll end up once we see time and time again how it’s ruining the game. You think differently, that’s fine, but I’m confident it’ll get canned.

The VAR wasn't correct at Liverpool wasn't correct at Chelsea.

In Italy:

Bianconeri captain Gianluigi Buffon was more vocal in his criticism, and called for less decisions to go to review, even if it meant there would be less penalties awarded as a result. “You told us that VAR would be used in clear-cut incidents where there were mistakes, but now you are even checking the replays for a trodden toe or a finger in an ear. It’s no longer football that way, it’s turning into water polo,” Buffon said.

“It takes too long, as I didn’t even celebrate when we were awarded a penalty, because six minutes had passed. Last season we had three penalties in our favour, but if it carries on like this, we’ll have 50. I’m happy with that as a Juventino, but it ruins the entertainment factor.”

If the veteran goalkeeper was complaining about too many incidents going to review, Roma were vocal about quite the opposite on Saturday evening. TV showed that Diego Perotti was clearly fouled inside the penalty area but – to the perplexity of all those who were watching – the referee never even consulted VAR.

“Daniele De Rossi went over, as captain, to ask why the referee wasn’t checking the VAR, Perotti told reporters after the match. “He replied that there was nothing in it.It was clearly a penalty, everyone saw it. They ended up giving a corner, but he never touched the ball.I hope someone will come out and explain why the penalty wasn’t given. I don’t understand why those watching the monitors didn’t see it. I don’t have much faith in VAR after this, because if we had scored that penalty, we’d have been 2-0 up and game over.”

Sound familiar ?

VAR will improve referee performances.

At the moment if a referee makes an error it is viewed as an error of judgement. It will be open to interpretation by others but they will just feel they did their best and any mistakes they recognise later are behind closed doors and hardly ever admitted to.

With VAR referees are very visibly judged on every major decision within the match - not to the point of opinion but definitive fact. In fact more importantly so are linesmen as they will get caught out by the absolute proof of the blue lines more than anyone.

No official is going to like having games where VAR proves them wrong over and over and they will surely up their game because of it out of fear of demotion when it is not just someone's opinion thinking they were at fault but everyone seeing via technology that they were.

Some times they will get the benefit of the doubt over an incident anyone could miss. But if the same referees are being called to review stuff by the VAR in game after game there will be no easy hiding place.

Plus any referee missing an incident in a game as judged by VAR will be much more likely to see a similar one later in the same match as he will be more focused on what just went wrong.

Your talking crap. It was clearly right at Liverpool

I'm lost for words with fellow blues tonight. How any blue can watch what went on this afternoon and still not see how VAR is the future, is beyond belief. Someone pass me the smack

There aren't many stadiums in this country that can fully support VAR and somehow I don't see the FA stumping up the cash for clubs who can't afford it.

Wtf.... do you even know how much money is in this league. You have to be a plant, no one can have this viewpoint in the real world surely

The poor clubs, what do they do when they've a home match picked for TV if their stadiums can't support cameras?

They could ask the League of Ireland for advice, think they got it sorted for about 5k a club.

It's a bit more too it than TV cameras. I was taken back when Bristol City couldn't use it in their game.

In ten years time, VAR will be an artificial intelligence that will give the refs an instant decision. In fact, the AI will probably be the senior official with no need for linos.
