Not that enamoured with Mahrez tbh, wouldn't be too arsed if this didn't go through. The guys got ability, but I don't think he's that consistently exceptional considering his age now. If he was as good as he is and only 22/23, I could see it but he's getting on 27 now and surely at his peak, I'd rather go for a younger player in the summer.

95% mmm so he's basically saying there's a chance something can happen.

5% is a perfectly reasonable guess as to how likely this is to happen so late.

But that can change if the player really makes his feelings clear.

Mahrez is a great player, there’s no doubt about that, but, as I have said in the past, I would rather save the money and play Diaz when needed.

Diaz has huge potential, could do a job now, and will need to be given game time to avoid a (less petulant, mind) Sancho-esque situation. He can fill in over the next few matches and then split time with Jesus when he returns until Sane recovers fully.

Get it done. He'd fit perfectly for us. If we was going for Sanchez then this guy gives us balance in the midfield and up front.

We knew we were pulling out of Sanchez 2 or 3 weeks ago, so would have started looking at alternatives, it was reported that there was a mystery 3rd target, with Fred off until the summer maybe we decided to go all in for the attacking player that's being flexible not panic. Even if we changed emphasis because of Sane doesn't mean Mahrez wasn't targeted a few weeks ago.

Always preferred him 100% to Sanchez, would bring something different even with every player fit. Can't see it getting done if it's purely in response to Sane's injury, hopefully we were already working on it.

Txiki and several other administration staff are being considered as stop-gap solutions with Sane’s injury, what with their ability to make things happen in opposition territory—if chosen it would make negotiating a deal for Mahrez very difficult.

Though, I suppose Txiki could do it at halftime.
