Riyad Mahrez

The owners of Leicester are Thai as we all know and, in Thailand the notion of respect/disrespect is a matter of life and death - or at least a prison sentence, so don't be surprised if they never sell us a player after we refused to meet their valuation. That's disrespect, innit.

The Guardian have an article by Jacob Steinberg, who is a WHU supporter, detailing how Leicester refused to let Islam Slimani join WHU on loan this window because Karen Brady disrespected the Thai owner of Leicester in her Sun column. Apparently, WHU begged and pleaded but they remain the unforgiven.

I don't think some fans understand.

So he wanted the stability of a long-term contract, so signed it, and is now upset at being expected to fulfil that contract? Leicester have no requirements to "let him go" no matter the bid, due to the absence of a release clause - again, on that big contract he signed willingly.

If reports are correct and he's downed tools, then he's a twat and we dodged a bullet.

This all paints both Leicester and Mahrez in a bad way imo

Leicester could have discussed with the player he would be able to leave for a decent amount of money if a top club came in for him, but what is to them decent value compared to Mahrez own value.

If Leicester value him so highly then surely his pay would increase in line with there value, would they expect a player signed for them for £90m be on £100,000 pw

Mahrez is paid to play and to his terms of his contract and he should adhere to his contract, train and play unless of course medically proven unfit to.

Either way can't see City getting involved with Mahrez again so let Leicester and him sort there own issues out.

fuck me I'm going to Thailand ,to sell loads of shit cheap items for really dear prices because they wouldn't dare disrespect me ,ill pay for mahrez when I get back.

If Real Madrid came in with an offer for one of our players and we turned it down there's no way on earth that us City fans would accept the player then downing tools.
We'd think the player was a cnut and rightly so, it's ok for Mahrez to be disappointed but he should now get on with it and be professional.

I think, with respect to Leicester, the two clubs are in vastly different positions. I can't envisage a situation where City would be telling any player that if he signs a new contract we'll look favourably on any approach from 'a big club'. Leicester's owners seem to be a bit of an eccentric bunch, there's a fine line between principles and stupidity, and blocking Slimani's loan to West Ham just because Karen Brady once wrote something in the papers that you took offence to falls in the latter box in my opinion. Maybe Mahrez's agent should have foreseen the fact that Leicester would have his client over (if that's the case) and insisted on a buy out clause but then again maybe Leicester should keep their word. Whatever the rights and wrongs it's a shit situation for both club and player.

I was driving (yep) to the gym and had Talkshite on. Surprise, surprise they were discussing FFP and us.........turned it off.
I must have listened to about 90 seconds of it. I heard one of them say that we deserve to be "battered" for trying to sign Mahrez just to replace a player who is out for 6 weeks and then someone started saying that "mistimed" tackles happen all the time and why is there now this narrative about about City players needing protection just because we've had a couple of players fouled. I was driving too and had to turn it off immediately before I ended up in the wrong frame of mind to be in control of a vehicle.

Because his representatives stated “Riyad Mahrez is suffering from depression”

oh that's fine then - seeing as its a very serious medical condition which can floor you and requires counselling and medication its a good job we did not sign him as he would not have passed the medical.

Sorry but I don't agree with any of that. Nobody other than the player and the Club know exactly what happened over the 4 years he has been with them. He helped bring them up from the Championship, won PL title. Leicester have not come out and said they did not promise they'd let him go, they are however on record as having said they told him he could go for a fair price.

Also couldn't care about him going AWOL, I'd still take him at City - Dembele did same at BVB as did our very own Sancho - it hasn't harmed their careers and Barca and BVB (for Sancho) did not dodge any bullets.
