Riyad Mahrez

about Foden (17) and Diaz (18), they are still too young to play regularly.
it's not wise to risk them playing against most of the club which is more interested breaking City player legs.
Foden is now injured for some time because of this.
i like Pep way to gradually give them playing time.
serious physical injury and pressure are unnecessary for players at this age.

Jeez! £50+ million replacement for injured Sané? That’s insane.

It would be a good coup mind you, and even when Sané comes back I don’t think Mahrez would drop immediately to the bench. Depending on form he could give either Sané or Sterling a run for their money.

If it’s true though that Mahrez has handed in a transfer request then I expect competition from Arsenal too

How many more times, it’s not to replace Sane, we were after Sanchez, so .....

If this happens, the great.

If not, at least it's fun reading the reactions to this over on the Caf :-D

Oh, those bitter salty tears taste so good.

Well the criticism has started :)

how old are these 2, and how much more careful nurturing by Pep do they need as they mature? Or do we throw them in and see them kicked off the pitch and have their careers ended before they've even begun?
You've seen the sustained attacks on our players, ask yourself how would Foden or Diaz cope with those on Sterling KDB and Sane?
If these players are the future, they need looking after, they're not built like Rooney, you can't just throw them in the deep end.

One thing to keep in mind, for all the bitter rival fans saying "Oh Sane's injured for two months so Pep splashes £60m on Mahrez," they're missing a big point.

It was abundantly clear we wanted Sanchez, either in January or the summer; however, we weren't willing to compete with what United offered him. We were/are clearly looking for another forward.

We've also known for a couple weeks now that Pep and Txiki have been looking at wrapping up most of our summer business this month, with the World Cup looming as well as prices going way up and a shortened transfer window.

If we wrap up this Mahrez deal before the end of the window, that just leaves Fred for the summer. They can moan all they want now about what we're paying but if we bring in only Fred (and some cheap CFG projects) in the summer, we will almost certainly make a profit on player incomings/outgoings for the next window.

I also like the fact Mahrez is almost 27. At some point you can only buy so much young talent. Having a player at the prime of his career to compete with Sane and Sterling will up their games even more. Added to that, he doesn't block their spot as much long-term.

key point being have a chance. Playing them too early when they aren't ready in high pressure games could ruin them. Diaz and Foden in particular are quite lightweight and have a couple of years left before they are physically ready.

Why on earth you'd want to lump on a kid to get us through the most important period in our history when we are one or two clever purchases away from having a serious chance at lifting 4 trophies, is quite frankly, nonsense

because you never know he might be good enough.... and it would only be for the next few weeks..... such nonsense. oh my god a talented young player maybe getting a few games when sane is inured or coming off the bench. the horror ! you say a few years off ? so what 4/5 years before we give young players a chance ?

its not nonsense at all and is a perfectly sensible argument.

A lot of "reporters" showing their true colours, not that they usually hide them much any way. They are terrified of us

None of our forwards are in their prime.

Kun is in prime years (29) and is scoring a lot but he’s not in his prime form or fitness anymore.

Sterling, Sané and Jesus are young - 23, 22 and 20 respectively - that’s three years for the oldest one Sterling before he gets into his prime of 26-29 years old.

All three of the younger ones still have a hell of lot to learn and improve on.

Mahrez is 26, he’s arguably playing as well as ever and has experience of this league. If he weren’t playing for Leicester and was at somewhere like Lazio everyone would be all over this!

It would be a great signing

Pep made it clear that the club changed the transfer policy after the Sanchez deal was called off. Rather than waiting for the summer when transfer fees will again increase He said we would attempt to do some business in january
