Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

End of the day Mendy, Delph, Stones, Jesus and Sane are all injured. 5 players good enough to get in to the first team. Anyone would struggle, especially since our game benefits from fresh legs.

The first 15 minutes of the second half we had them on the ropes and to let them get back into the game is not excusable, for the team we are right now at least. They could not get out of their 5 yard box and we somehow reached the point to self-destruct. With all these injuries and still quite a few big games ahead, two more points would be much, much better.

It's funny how quickly an excellent performance can turn into a piss poor one. Some of Kun's hold up play was the best I've seen from him in recent games and Gundogan ran the show for 70 mins.

What I will add though, and this is the first time I've thought this, is that Pep's game management was piss poor today. Time after time last season performances like today happened and Pep stressed the importance of not conceding when you're not able to put the game to bed.

The Sterling sub seemed to me like it was out of frustration and if anything it gave even more confidence to Burnley. All of the problems that arise from giving young players a chance were evident in Diaz's performance - he was too weak and consistently gave the ball away.

Not only that, there was a good 8 minute spell where it was Burnley attack after attack and you could sense that the equaliser was coming. The change should have been to rectify this, not prove a point to Raz (who has pulled us out of the shit many a time this season). Switching to 3 at the back or going with a false 9 might have gave us a bit more control and kept Burnley at bay.

Ball seemed heavy and plenty of passes were underhit, maybe long grass? Anyway, it's not easy going away to Burnley this season and I thought they deserved a point, what with Eddie's saves and Sterling's sitter, they are a powerful outfit and they were well organised.

Not the end of the world though, we move on. TOTL!

Totally ruined my weekend, could have been 18 points ahead, but Sterling and Walker cost us 2 points. It will be 13 points in two hours

And David Silva..

Just seemed the team put it into neutral a little early. Definitely could be tiredness too. Need an answer to this problem, either way. Might have to win some games 1-0.

They deserved their point. Their directness is what we lack. We were clean away from their press, past 4 or 5 if their team and deep into their half, yet we can’t make anything of it, and 10 seconds later,we are back in our half with them all set and back in formation. Many times we were through and can’t make the most of it or just totally fcuk it up. It amazes me how they do it as professionals. We were wasteful in front of goal YET AGAIN!!!! No one to blame but ourselves for poor pass choices and rubbish finishing. Gundy, Kun and Sterling were really poor today, their final decisions in front of goal are poor.
Razza missing from 1 yard out is inexcusable.

We did play well.

Agree..we did play well. Even the pundits on Sky thought we played well. We've beaten Burnley twice this season by 3 goals..could and should have been the same today, Burnley wouldn't have had any complaints.
