Squad Depth/Injuries mounting up

I am amazed we have allowed things to get to a stage where we are relying on one striker staying fit for the next month.
We've still got false 9 Bernie, who was absolutely fantastic in that role the other day. The more glaring thing is the lack of depth on the wings imo, Bernardo can't really be our first choice backup as he's not remotely the kind of player we need our wingers to be. At least at striker we had 2 great options for one position, in the wise areas we have 2 plyers for the positions

Yep. Our failure to get the Mahrez transfer done for whatever reason could cost us, particularly in the CL.

Personally I think we should have signed a striker too. Laporte was not that necessary for me at this point particularly with Kompany being close the fitness.

We still should have won though. Only sloppiness stopped us winning

I disagree, I think the Laporte signing was absolutely necessary in order to secure a quality 23yr old centre half who has yet to be capped and so was a bargain, who can fit right into our style, be with us for at least the next 10 years and prove to be an absolute snip at that price. Look what VVD cost the dippers. Paying what we did for him now, regardless of whether we needed him right now, will prove to be a business decision par excellence.

Nah, I think we were desperate for a cb as Kompany cannot be trusted to either be fit of particularly good when fit. For me, 3 strikers when we only play 1 would be a bit excessive, but if we had 4 wingers, maybe 2 of which could fill in up front then we'd be fine I reckon. It's the strain in the wide areas that stopping us playing Sterling or Bernardo up top, if we can get Brahim broken in and comfortable it would be huge, but as you say Mahrez would have made life a lot easier.

At the moment we are right on the brink, we realistically only have 5 fit senior outfield first team players (and Zinchenko) for the front 5 positions, another injury and we're playing Brahim, Zinchenko or even Danilo as an attacker

Define "close to fitness" ? its more likely he's close to unfitness, and that is why we brought Laporte in, plus I think he wants to play 3 at the back in the CL, we can're rely on Kompany, so it needed to be done.

No team will ever cover all injuries, but wide left we can use Diaz and Zinchenko if the desire is there, and Bernardo can play up top. Today was obviously a bad day for injury, but hopefully that will be the peak of it.

I’m sure he will be but it shouldn’t have been left at that and we shouldn’t have been pissing about on the last day of the window. The CL is supposedly the goal of the club but for me they have left the manager short.

The club for me, ie don't arrange EDS games the night before a PL game, pretty idiotic that, and I'm sure they have some say when EDS fixtures happen.
I pretty much assumed we only had 6 as we took 18 players and then Nmecha went down sick. I didn't see it as a big deal at all, it happens all the time but Gary Neville just seeing a chance to have a dig at us about it and about how we don't give youth a chance (despite 3 youths on the bench, with the 4th being sick and one of them coming on for 20 crucial minutes)

What Pep said about 6 subs was spot on. I don’t give a fuck what Neville, who has become a snide red tw*t more recently, and Gerrard, who clearly thinks an EDS sub should have been happy to not get a game and be a silly token sub(?), have to say. Pep is the Manager and it’s his choice to manage the assets at his disposal. Had a first team squad player been fit, he would have been on the field or the bench, but why have players sitting around rather than getting a game and keeping the EDS’ season going?!
EDIT: Didn’t know Nmecha had traveled but went down sick. Even better explanation, if true! UFB!!

We should expect the knives to be out, and sharpened for action, for the rest of the season. No one wants a procession to the title, and everyone is looking for us to slip up, even though most of them don’t want Mourinho to win it, either!

I’m not expecting ANYONE to write anything positive about us for the rest of the season, and expect everyone to laud any team that beats us...be it Arsenal at Wembley, Basel, or anyone else. It is the British Way....constantly trying to knock down anyone who does better, gets more, or appears to have been given something “they” don’t think they deserve! Bono talked about it once...he said that in England/Ireland, people look at the big house on the hill and wave a fist saying, “That fucker!” while in America people look at the house and wistfully say, “One day, I’m going to live in a house like that!”

Scorpion and the frog...it’s in our nature.

Im sure we can all agree that it shouldnt have been left at that, but that wasnt what you originally said. i think you were alluding to us signing a defender over a striker. im sure that wasnt the case; we had to make this signing of Leporte as it was good business. I dont think it was to the detriment of other deals. And I also dont think we were pissing about, our transfer policy has been proven to be very thought out

Well time will tell on that.

It’s been better this season but prior to that it’s been very hit and miss.

I still think we are an Aguero injury away from problems.

its an option we might have to use and I thought he would of used it today as well , ah well no point whining about injuries weve got what weve got and have to get on with it.

Yep. We still should have won. Only sloppiness stopped us winning. We are one point better off and two more games in this week. It could have been better and perhaps should have been but with a 13 point gap with 12 games to go, we should be comfortable until the injury problems subside.

I’ve got a feeling that all we’ll win this year is the league. I can’t currently see us winning any of the cups or CL with the squad in the shape that it is. That would be a massive shame, but I just can’t see it currently.

This is all really depressing. Stones and
Silva will be back soon, Jesus in about a month. It’s only a few days ago we were purring against West Brom. Seriously cheer up!

Plenty of clubs have loads of injuries. Our problem is the number of games our success is leading to.

While we can do fine without Delph and Mendy, GJ and Sane are pretty integral. Yesterday Leroy plays we get 3 points.

The good news is if we get passed Basel they will be back fresh to give us a lift.
