Squad Depth/Injuries mounting up

From a domestic perspective I don't think we need to worry. Plenty of games for all our rivals. Where it does make a difference is in Europe . The likes of barca, psg, bayern can all rest players with minimum risk.

I think we have taken the gamble that we will beat Basel whatever squad we have and that when the QF come, we will have Sane, Jesus and Delph back.

It’s a risky strategy though. More firepower wouldn’t have gone a miss for me in Jan

Thank god Agüero found his form again in January after that shoddy run of form before the New Year

One other thing that sucks about then depth right now is that our line-up is extremely predictable in terms of the midfield & attack. We really don’t have any curve balls we can throw at Arsenal.
We could play a back 3

Earlier in the week when it looked like we were going to buy Mahrez I was quite annoyed. Excellent player but we don't need to stockpile players simply because we can. We have two fantastic talents waiting for their chance and they need a pathway.

To go on about squad depth now, this is the ideal time to blood youngsters.

  • We are 13 points clear. If we can't do it now with the title almost in our grasp when will we? We can lose 4 out of the last 12 and still be Champions. There is margin for error and frankly a kid will not be the culprit for a collapse. People need to get over this fear about kids making mistakes. It's fucking football, not the marines.
  • We will likely win the league with games to spare. In the remaining games Foden, Diaz and Tosin should start games. They're the three who have been on the bench enough times.
  • We'll have our best available team for the League Cup Final but the CL and FA Cup is still some way away. For that reason I expect the manager to prioritise knockout games, which should allow for rotation in the league games.
  • If Diaz or Foden prove their worth in the remaining games maybe just maybe we can keep our money in our pockets this summer. Academy players save you millions if you give them a platform to prove themselves.
This is high time for Pep to live up to his pro-youth pedestal. I love his playing style, I love how he has reduced our average age significantly and how he has shoved it up the arse of those who say he will be found out. Nonetheless one of the most exciting things I looked for when he came was the integration of our youngsters. I will be very disappointed if we don't have at least one academy player playing prominently in the first team next year. It's all well and good buying the best prospects from abroad but those who watch our boys will know we have some fine talents waiting in the wings.

The ideal time to blood youngsters is when they have proved in training they are better than the current player in that position.

How do you know they aren't?

If Aguero has a stinker of a week while Nmecha has outscored him comfortably do you think Nmecha will take Aguero's place?

Agreed. It’s time to throttle back on the spending and give some Academy players a chance to step up. If we have the league wrapped up then the final few games would be ideal.

For me the Mahrez thing was always iffy when we have Gundy and Bernado on the bench when everyone is fit. I feel it is getting to the stage where signing players like him should lead to another moving on. When in the middle of an exceptional injury crisis like this we adapt. Modify tactics, move players around like we have done at left back. Bring in young players like Diaz.

In the summer I’m more concerned with replacing Yaya with Fernandinho’s eventual upgrade than signing more forwards. Unless the opportunistic chance to sign some world superstar as Aguero’s successor comes up.

Anyone got a list of our injured and an expected timeframe for their return? Presumably Dave and Stones are back soon, but Jesus, Mendy, Sane still out for at least a month and Delph and Foden I don't know?

But they never are. It's very very rare that a youngster with no experience will be better than a senior pro in the Premier League, hence why (this is true even more so at clubs like Burnley than at Man City) they can't get in. Given half a season in the team, the youngster may be one of the stars - but he needs that experience.

Premier League now, at the top as well as the bottom, points are so vital that teams won't risk losing the points from the untried youngster, however much it might be good for his career. Managers' careers are too short as well - what manager will give up 6 points now against the next manager's potential gain?

That's the point. City are 13 points clear and can afford the possible lost points from a talented but inexperienced youngster.

Nmecha published a photo on Instagram saying: "Fully training next week"
And some people where whinging yesterday that we didn't put him on the bench, he needs to spend plenty of time with our first team learning what is expected of him.

Little bit surprising that given Jesus injury, he wasn’t promoted and learning 5 weeks ago. I think Jesus may have had a setback because this false 9 thing didn’t work for me that well against Bristol City at home.

I think we were covered with sane but now we are threadbare,i know nothing about this kid but i hope he can help in some way

I disagree, I think the Laporte signing was absolutely necessary in order to secure a quality 23yr old centre half who has yet to be capped and so was a bargain, who can fit right into our style, be with us for at least the next 10 years and prove to be an absolute snip at that price. Look what VVD cost the dippers. Paying what we did for him now, regardless of whether we needed him right now, will prove to be a business decision par excellence.
Agree 100 % looks class act
